Un regalo de caridad - A Life Changing Poem. [ENG - ESP]

If I were to be given a gold coin
whether be it gifted or earned.
I simply would not indulge upon myself,
but share it's value amongst the possession of men.

If I were to be shown the righteous way
by some manner of labor or grace;
I promise to share it's eternal wisdom with the world
And that it's secret would not live to see another light of day.

If I had the power to take something from this world,
I would choose to take our eyes.
For perhaps it is when we are blinded from our own discriminations,
That we would finally realize we are all the same.

If I had the opportunity to help out,
to give charity via some form of material welfare.
Then I assure you that I wouldn't even give a dime to a beggar,
Because my one-time token would only serve as an encouragement to his on going demise.

If my beloved were ever to be of need
by some complication of which i may be able to resolve,
Then, I would scavenge the ends of the earth just to find a solution,
For it is our loved ones whom deserve the most charity.

If I could exchange my happiness with another's sorrow,
I would gladly do so with the next person.
For I rather that I suffer the dreadfulness of misery
Than see it consume the life of another.

If my life were to end today
so I may journey to the heart of love.
Then I will gladly drop this body for the earth
leaving it only to serve as nutrients for the soil.

Life is all about sharing and I could feel the deep sense and the urgency from this poet. Indeed, if we care enough and share enough, the world would have enough. The world has enough of our needs but never enough for our greed. Only if we could take out the eyes as you have said so we can be blinded to our insensitiveness, greed and selfishness...so we won't have to perpetuate them.

This puts a smile on my face.

Thank you for your kind words and for your understanding. I appreciate your feedback.

Loved this. It's such a generous and compassionate poem.

Then I will gladly drop this body for the earth
leaving it only to serve as nutrients for the soil.

Loved the earth reverence here. Not giving to 'God' but the earth herself.

There's a book by Jose Saramego where everyone goes blind. It suggests not a positive outcome entirely, as you suggest, although some are united in their blindness, but civilisation collapsing, the blind in concentration camps for fear of contagion, theft, bureaucratic aloofness and so on. Without sight - we are talking about the symbolic here too - society will collapse

His goal was to demonstrate the fragility of human society and, using allegory, to show that basic human decency is, in his view at least, an illusion and that it too would largely vanish, if society collapsed.

This is a good review

Why then you! That's means a lot.
Oh yes, the Earth is just as important.

And also, woa! That book sounds like a lot. I'll quickly go check it out right now. It really feels like my kind of genre. Thanks for recommending it to me.
