Hello everyone, this time I will be participating in this Splinterlands Challenge, where I will show you a battle in the modern ranked league, in one of which I will be able to use a gladius unit.

First, let's talk a little bit about Sola Ranjell, the gladius unit I chose for this battle, unfortunately I only have this card at level 1 for now, but it is still useful as will be shown later in the battle.

Sola Ranjell is a legendary light unit, with decent stats for her mana cost. But what makes her special are her support abilities, a truly healing mage.

Sola starts with the TANK HEAL ability, which allows her to heal the allied frontline unit each turn for one third of their max health.

Like all gladius units, she also has the BLOODLUST ability, so when she defeats an enemy unit, she will gain +1 to all stats.

At level 3, she gains the CLEANSE ability, which allows her to remove all negative effects from the allied unit in the first position each turn.

At level 4, she gains the STRENGTHEN ability, which passively grants +1 health to all allied units while she is alive.

Since Sola Ranjell is a gladius unit, she can normally only be played in Guild Brawl battles, but there are two methods to summon her in ranked battles.

Apparently rulesetes are now called modifiers, so I'll be using this new term from now on.

When the Are You not Entertained? modifier is active, it allows you to summon one extra gladius unit.

And when you use one of the six summoners that have the CONSCRIPT ability, it also allows you to summon one extra gladiator. Some of them are:

Some modifiers where Sola performs well on are:

Excellent in the LITTLE LEAGUE modifier, being the only light magic unit in the modern league with 4 or less mana that can heal her allies.

She is also great on the NOXIOUS FUMES modifier, where all units are poisoned, as Sola can dispel the poison from the frontline ally.

At the time of writing this post, Sola Ranjell has 7983 regular foils, and only 226 gold foils in circulation.

HOW TO OBTAIN

Currently, she is only available through Gladius Cases, which can be purchased for 2000 merits each.

Merits can be earned in Guild Brawl battles and can also be purchased for a certain amout of Glint from the Shop Rewards.

Each Gladius Case contains 5 random Gladius cards, at least one of which is guaranteed to be rare or better.

BATTLE

In this ranked battle as I mentioned before, in order to summon Sola Ranjell, the Are you not Entertained? modifier was active, allowing me to play one gladius card. Also, only units with an odd mana cost can be summoned due to the Odd Ones Out modifier. Finally, the Noxious Fumes modifier poisons all units on the battlefield, causing them to take 2 damage at the start of each round starting from the second round onwards.

This time there is a 23 mana cap , so I will focus on using mostly low mana units.

I decide to choose Eternal Tofu as my summoner once again, which will help my units against the poison effect, giving them +2 health. Also, allied units obtain the thorns ability, which will damage melee enemy units for 2 physical damage when they succesfully attack. Additionally, I chose the left-tactic of Tofu, giving the Corrosive Ward and Divine Shield to three of my units.

In the first position is Halfling Refugee, the best 1 mana unit currently, he has incredible stats and can heal himself each turn, unless he becomes Exhausted (which also prevents him from attacking) by his Weary ability, which has a 10% chance to trigger starting from the first round, this chance increases by 10% each turn up to a max of 80% chance.

In the second and third position, I save my mana by using two 1 mana units, Gargoya Scrapper and Chaos Agent.

In the third position is Sola Ranjell who is only level 1, but she is ready to heal my poisoned units and if she is lucky enough to defeat an enemy, she will gain more stats.

Venari Marksrat is in the fourth position, so when defeatead by enemy attacks or by the poison effect, it will give adjacent units +1 to all stats thanks to its Martyr ability.

And in the last position is Venka the Vile, who can attack from any position and will perform another attack on the next unit in the enemy lineup when she defeats an enemy thanks to her Trample ability.

In the first round, both my opponent's Refugee and my Refugee were damaged, but neither was defeated.

In the second round, the enemy Refugee is defeated by the poison effect, but is resurrected due to Adelade Brightwing's effect. After that, my Venka destroys the resurrected enemy Refugee and Venari Marksrat thanks to her Trample ability. And the enemy Spirit Hoarder defeats my Refugee.

In the third round, the enemy Spirit Hoarder and my Venka are defeated by the poison effect. After that, the enemy Stitch Leech defeats my Venari Marksrat, so it increases the stats of my Sola Ranjell by 1.

At the start of the fourth round, the poison effect eliminates 3 units, the enemies Stitch Leech, Chaos Agent and my own Chaos Agent are defeated. After that, my Gargoya Scrapper is defeated by Adelade's magic attack. Now, only Adelade and Sola remain in the battle.

In the fifth and final round, Adelade attacks Sola but thanks to the Divine Shield that Sola still had from the first round thanks to Eternal Tofu, she was able to survive. Finally, Sola immediately attacks Adelade and defeats her, ending the battle.

In this battle where all units without Immunity were poisoned, Sola Ranjell's Tank Heal ability was very useful for my frontline units, allowing them to hold out a little longer.

Venka the Vile also helped a lot, managing to destroy two enemy units in a row, unfortunately she was quickly defeated due to Stitch Leech's sneak attacks.

The Noxious Fumes modifier was able to take the most victims this time, destroying 6 units. In the end the battle was decided between Sola Ranjell and Adelade Brightwing where thanks to the Divine Shield that Sola had, she was able to defeat Adelade, winning the battle. This was one of the closest battles I've had in a long time.
