Hello! This post is for the entry of Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge. For this week, we have Melee Mayhem as the featured ruleset. This post features a battle that because of another Ruleset, Melee Mayhem is not really powerful as it is supposed to be in a normal battle. However, I was able to use Melee Mayhem's advantage in my lineup.
Melee Mayhem
Melee units can attack from any position.
Prime use case for melee units with Bloodlust.
Abilities take precedence where targeting is concerned.
In general, you would want to use strong Melee Gladiator cards, as it says on the description, since it could have a higher chance to trigger bloodlust ability. In this ruleset, I prefer using Fire or Water element, since I think it has more stronger melee units.
Battle Info
Rank: Bronze Wild
Avaliable Type: Earth, Life, Dragon
Mana: 49
Melee Mayhem: Melee units can attack from any position.
Counterspell: All units receive the Magic Reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with magic receive damage back.
Briar Patch: All units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back.
The ruleset was really hard to make teams, yet again. Melee Mayhem should be able to give melee monsters buff, but with Briar Patch, it is hard to make teams with only Melee attacks since it would take damage with its own attacks. Counterspell also meant that Magic attacks are not strong. So, while Melee Mayhem is in the ruleset, it seems like using monsters with Ranged attack is the best choice out of 3 attack types.
My Lineup
Summoner: Ilthain. For the Summoner, I picked Ilthain. With the ruleset having both Thorns and Counterspell, it would be good to counter Ranged attacks, because the opponent would definitely use at least one. The ruleset really tempts to use Ranged attacks, since it counters Melee and Magic, and with Ilthain, I would be countering all three types of attacks. The +1 speed is also really nice to have.
First position: Prismatic Energy. For the Tank, I went with Prismatic Energy. It is not the best choice, but it would hold their position by having high health and having tank heal support units at the back.
Second position: Uriel the Purifier. Then, to reduce the amount of Thorn damage, I picked Uriel. It has recharge so it would not get a lot of Thorn damage since it only attacks for every 2 rounds, and since it could attack from any position, I put in second place.
Third position: Drybone Barbarian. Drybone Bararian was at the 3rd position, and it seemed like it was a good ruleset because Thorn damage actually enables Drybone Barbarian to get enraged and get more attack and speed.
Fourth position: Djinn Renova. After that, I wanted some units with buffs for our team, so I went with Djinn Renova which gives +1 health boost to all my units.
Fifth position: Meriput Magician. Than, I went for some Tank Heal cards to keep my first position unit alive.
Last position: Venari Crystalsmith. Lastly, I went for another tank heal unit. If they had affliction, I think I would be in a disadvantage since I was focused on Healing.

Round 1
The enemy monsters were revealed and I was not that surprised when they used a lot of ranged monsters, with General Sloan. That meant good for me, and Pelacor Arbalest would be easy to take down with with its high damage attacks, as well as other Ranged attackers. Looking back, Corsair Bosun would've been a nice addition in my lineup, since having Reflection Shield meant that it would not take Thorn damage. However, Iziar meant that my lineup of Magic monsters will not be effective enough.
Round 1 started and we both were exchanging blows, including the reflection damage. Iziar turned out to be really good, because not only it got reduced magic damage, but it also meant that it was taking no damage from the reflection damage. After exchanging blows, Prismatic Energy was taken down, but their Pelacor Arbalest was also taken down by Return Fire damage from Prismatic Energy. Drybone Barbarian also got enraged and now had 8 melee attacks.
Round 2
Round 2 started and the enraged Drybone Barbarian was able to take down Iziar Quickly. Because I still had some magic attackers left, it was a good sign for me as Clockwork Aide only had 1 health. After it got taken down by Djinn Renova, Corsair Bosun was able to block the huge 9 melee attack from Uriel the Purifier by some armor, which was good for them.
Round 3, 4
Drybone Barbarian was really good with the Thorn and Melee Mayhem ruleset! It was able to take down Corsair Bosun by only 1 hit. After Magiput Magician took enemy Venari Crystalsmith down, They only had Cornealus left, which was not able to attack. The game ended at Round 4, when Venari Crystalsmith took down Cornealus.
Thoughts about this battle
Countering ranged with Ilthain was a good move for me. If I did not have it, Pelacor Arbalest would have gone through my defense and they could've had a chance to win. I was also surprised that despite having Thorn in the ruleset, I was able to use some benefits from Melee Mayhem ruleset.
Thanks!
