Dragons Are Fun

I don't own a Dragon summoner, I wish I did, but I really enjoy playing Dragon splinter so I often rent Quix and/or Sthispa. I enjoy Sthispa for the Phase buff and Quix for the Range and Speed debuffs. Gaining a speed advantage with a deck full of cards with flight can be fun to watch the misses pile up. (Super frustrating to be on the other side 😀) I was excited to see Dragons come up as this week's theme as it gave me a chance to share a fun Quix battle.

Is Quix's Debuff Enough?

Quix v. Obsidian

With Going the Distance ruleset and Little League I knew Quix was going to be a strong
choice. The minus one range debuff is alwyas nice, but in a Little League match it is game changing. Take a look at all of the cards available for this battle...

Note: I don't own a Gold level max of each of these cards, but that is what I will use as a comparison so I can accurately guess what could be coming my way.

Fire

CardNotes
Five health, two attack, Snipe and Snare
Five health, three attack
Three health, two attack and Snare
Three health, three attack and Snare

Water

CardNotes
Six health, two attack, Life Leech and Cripple
Six health, three attack
Six health, two attack and Triage
Five health, two attack and Stun

Earth

CardNotes
Seven health, two attack and Blind
Five health, two attack
Six health, one attack and Rust
Five health, two attack, Scattershot and Cripple
Three health, two attack, Sneak, Scavenger and Stun

Life

CardNotes
Five health, two attack, Tank Heal and Dispel
Three health, one attack
Four health, two attack, Flight and Stun
Two health, one attack, and Blind

Dragon

CardNotes
Four health, two attack and Backfire

Neutral

CardNotes
Four health, two attack
Five health, one attack, Flight and Protect
Three health, two attack, Oppress, Snare and Blast
Three health, one attack, one armor, Redemption and Halving

The max damage I could expect to see is three, and even those are few and far between. Even if my opponent were to choose Sloan for the +1 range buff they could not get over 3 damage. That means Quix will lower the attack power of each of my opponent's cards to 1 or 2. With the choice of summoner a slam dunk on this one, the beauty of Dragon is also getting to pick another splinter to pair with. Looking at the other splinters Little League eligible cards I would love to go with Earth as it offers the most choices, highest health and best combos of attack and abilities. Unfortunately, with my level one Quix, and my lack of a well-rounded Earth ranged deck, I went with a close second of Water with decent firepower and solid health. Fire is tempting with the heavy hitters, but the sacrifice is low health.

How Did it Go?

I'm a bit worried with my opponents level six Obsidian staring me down...

Round 1 — I'm able to quickly take out my opponents Iza tank without taking much damage myself. Merdhampir is able to connect and gain health thanks to Life Leech.

Round 2 — After quickly taking out Tower Griffin and Child of the Forest Xenith Archer is a sitting duck without the ability to attack from the tank position.

In the end a well thought out plan beat the high-level Summoner with no bite. Quix's debuff evened the playing field and my opponent couldn't muster enough attack to break my tank. The fun part of playing Dragons is you don't necessarily have to deploy a lot of Dragon cards. In this case, Quix and Naga helped round out a powerful team of Dragon, Water and Neutral cards to smash my opponent.
