Change
With the launch of the new Soulbound Reward cards, splinterlands has changed a bit. New is the fact that there are now cards that can only be collected via reward chests in the game itself.
Some of the cards have completely new abilities and change the game permanently. For example, there are the cards with Matyr or Weapon Training. The new summoners also have a big impact. Suddenly Galdius cards are also playable in ranked matches or in normal tournaments, which changes the meta a lot. These innovations take Splinterlands further and I welcome the new cards for several reasons.
They make it possible to slowly advance to higher leagues without investing several 10'000$ in cards. Simply by collecting the cards. Of course, such a change has a big impact on the economy and especially on the rental market for cards, but I think for smaller players, who are not involved with the equivalent of a middle class car, the new system is good.
All this does not mean that there are no more challenges, the bots are still a big problem, a good mode for beginners is missing and the mobile version is unfortunately still absolutely unusable. And then there's the whole macroeconomic situation with inflation, etc.
But what's the saying? Rome wasn't built in a day.
Hunting for Cards

It's fun to collect the cards, but sometimes it can be a bit frustrating. After all, we can't choose which cards we get and so we are dependent on him here:

All kidding aside, what would be really cool is some sort of progression path with quest lines or something, where you can then choose which cards come next. Or maybe just to increase the chance of getting certain cards. There would be many possibilities how to make it all a little more dynamic, let's be surprised if there comes something!
Workin in the goldmine
Drawing cards is fun without question, but drawing golden cards is even more fun!
Because I pray to RNGesus every day, I get rich gifts. So I already have some Gold Foil Reward cards in my collection:
Level 4 Pembrook Nymph and a level 5 Lobb Lowland are already great. Lobb is even my first Summoner on Gold League level...
But there are more good cards with it.
For example, I really enjoy the Drybone Barbarian, but also the War Pegasus and the Ravenhood Warden are often used.
Without question, I had the most luck with the Ferexian Hero and of course with the Kulu Mastermind. With the Mastermind I'm even missing only 1 BCX to the max. Level. Currently I'm still missing a Summoner to play Legendarys at level 4, but that's only a matter of time.
Despite the solid yield so far, I'm still missing some cool Legendarys. I'm curious how long it will take until I have every card once in the collection.
Summary
The Soulbound Reward cards are a big change. I think they are a good change and I personally enjoy collecting them. Even though it will be a long way until the collection is complete and the cards are on a good level.
For me, the new reward cards are a building block towards a game that could also be interesting for newcomers. Because that is what the Splinterlands cosmos is missing the most at the moment: New players!
There are more changes planned and we can be curious how it goes on. The question will also be, if the core product, the game itself, is so far advanced until the next Bullrun, that it can attract masses of new players. I would wish for it.
What is your yield of reward cards so far, have you had any luck? Feel free to let me know in the comments.
See you soon on the battlefield.
