Brawl Report : Lucky Fray 13
Greetings Splinterlanders and hiveans, and welcome to another brawl report for Pizza 1: The Stuffed Crust. This time I was battling in lucky fray 13 (with some added delegation assistance from the hive.pizza guild). This fray took place a while back, but here is a moment to summarize my favorite fight from the following battles of that week (here, here, here, and here)
Battle Highlight: Speeding to Victory
In the battle located here the enemy lineup appears to have tankier characters (chain golem being the highlighted enemy tank), but this tankiness wasn't utilized effectively.
As you can see the enemy lineup has TWO characters that are not attacking per turn. Chain golem AND Disintegrator both don't attack each turn. Interestingly enough both lineups were chosen based on similar value picks, both I and my opponent chose a summoner that changed the ratio for dodging (his with flying mine with plus 1 speed), HOWEVER the extra layer of armor added by the Water summoner I have equipped was an additional layer of defense that is a factor in this battle. Both I and my opponent used Disintegrator to reduce the enemy lineup's damage (very effective in this case in the "all melee" ruleset).
Admittedly there was a considerable amount of RNG in this match BUT this further displays the strength of high speed based lineups dodging melee attacks. This fight could have gone in either direction, but high speed ended up being harder to dodge than low speed, FLYING enemies. The dice could've been rolled either way, but the dice were SLIGHLTY loaded in my favor this time (even though any number of dodges could have been hits or visa versa to change the outcome of this match).
Talking Tidbits: The Speed Meta
As you can see in the previous text, Speed is a game changer. The fact of the matter is speed and turn order has ALWAYS been important in Gold play and beyond, and the reason it is less relevant in earlier tiers (bronze and silver) is in part due to the lack of availability of speed related abilities (phase being the most notable) that are unlocked at higher creature levels. It is also in part due to the oversaturation of magic being used as coverall solution for many player collections. Which is fair, magic and anti-magic are THE meta at the moment (even at higher tiers). Speed is still used with magic to alter turn order. Never forget, that even within the magic and antimagic meta speed is vitally important (even without phase). Don't underestimate something as simple as attacking first or second. This can be the difference between victory and defeat.
