What is going on Splinterlandians today I'm here to talk about the flying ability and why I feel it is so powerful.

There are 64 abilities in the game so what makes flying so special?

Well, +25% chance of evading any attack is amazing but then you can pair it with some other amazing abilities to further its effectiveness. Cumulative with Dodge and Blind, to get up to + 65% chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks.

Then if you start pairing in slow and swiftness monsters you can get some absurd dodges. You can even go up to 100% dodge chance if you have a big enough speed difference. For example, let us take a look at Phantom Of The Abyss for a second.

One of the hardest cards to deal with can be this guy, starting out at a ridiculous 6 speed and having both flying and dodge means he has a 100% chance to dodge a monster with 1 speed if they are melee or ranged. Now if that monster has flying or dodge it negates the effect of flying or dodge respectively. However, a monster having both of these abilities is rare so when you take the two of those abilities and pair it with a bunch of speed you will be dodging like Keanu Reeves from the matrix.

So not only is it good when paired with other abilities that amplify it but flying alone is clutch. You could even have a massive speed advantage and still miss with that 25% chance. One of the most infuriating things is missing a 1 speed monster with flying which could be the deciding factor in the fight.

Not to mention its use in the earthquake ruleset where you see it most used. Even in battles without earthquake when you see multiple monsters with flying you best believe your in for a few misses.

So even though it can come down to RNG at times having that 25% chance can often prove to be the deciding factor in a battle. Sometimes it seems you don't ever have RNG on your side, but you know when there is a fight you should've lost but pulled out the win because of flying.

Another card I would like to take a look at is Albatross.

Now, this is a card that is utterly amazing in reverse speed ruleset, with one caveat though you have to have him at level 1. He gets tank heal at later levels which can be super helpful but I would recommend having a level 1 of him as he seems impossible to hit at times. Being a 1 speed with flying in the reverse speed ruleset is so strong and even though he can only take one hit maximum it will be tough to get that hit. If you by chance get reverse speed and equalizer paired together this guy can be an amazing frontline tank as he will dodge many attacks and have a decent health pool.

Brighton Bloom

Brighton was an eccentric young man of Shimmer City, the capital of Khymeria. He was always seen as a strange character among the Khymian summoners. In the best times, his peers thought he was simply a distraction from their important studies. In the worst times, his fellow summoners doubted and belittled Brighton’s abilities. They were also put off by the way birds always landed on his hands and shoulders. After just two years studying at the Shimmer summoning school, Brighton decided to leave Khymeria. His loyalty was available to the highest bidder, and that is where the Dragons came in. The Gloridax cared not for Brighton’s strange idiosyncrasies; what mattered to them was his skills as a summoner. Furthermore, in Gloridax eyes oneness with birds has long been considered a sign of divinity. Brighton’s attraction to birds was quickly noticed by Suam Khepri, Empress of the United Gloridax, who assigned a team of aerial sorcerers to properly train the young man. When Brighton emerged from that training, he could grant the power of flight to any monster under his summoning control.

Now we get to the flying aficionado Brighton Bloom, a dragon summoner that gives all monsters the flying ability. Mostly used in flying ruleset but overlooked for general use this guy can actually be super versatile and annoying to deal with when not expecting it.

I would suggest you try running this guy as your summoner in some matches outside of earthquake for some fun combinations. One of my favourite comps is the Brighton life hybrid which uses Brighton alongside a very frequent life comp.

It is the comp of Shieldbearer, Silvershield Knight, Silvershield Assassin, Feral Spirit, Elven Cutthroat, and then a supplementary monster like either a healer/armour repair or a monster with swiftness/slow. Altogether paired with Brighton Bloom the comp will taunt then enemy monsters and Shieldbearer who will have a chance to dodge melee and ranged while the sneak monsters will go to town on the enemy backline. I have found this can even be more useful sometimes than paired with Lorna which is the usual setup you see when running this lineup. But don't underestimate that flying with this comp as it can do work with the amount of speed between the units. The only slow monster is really Shieldbearer and even if he does go down you have Silvershield Knight as a backup who has a much higher speed and great chance to dodge.

So try it out mix in some crazy fast comps alongside Brighton and see how you make out. I guarantee you will be laughing when your opponent misses 4 times straight and you're just chilling popping their units.
