In this week's battle challenge belongs to the Earth Splinter. Mycelic Infantry is a melee tank monster. This monster is made to negate other melee monster damage, and dish some out. In only melee and reverse speed matches don't sleep on this monster.
Let's take a look at the stats of Mycelic Infantry.
Mycelic Infantry Stats:
Level 1: Mycelic Infantry has shield ability (Shield ability provides reduced damage from melee and ranged attacks).
Level 5: This monster gets another ability called Giant Killer (Giant Killer ability does double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana).
Level 8: You receive the last ability Enrage (Enrage ability has increased melee attack and speed when damaged). Side note this ability takes effect when the health is damaged.
While acquiring these abilities your health and attack stats are also increasing.
How I use Mycelic Infantry:
In modern bronze league I use this monster in reverse speed and melee only matches. I also like to pair this monster with Mylor and Wizard of Eastwood summoners. But in match up in link below. I found I could pair Mycelic Infantry with Drake from the Dragon faction.
My Mycelic Infantry battle!

In this battle we have Earth vs Earth. The ruleset of this battle is Up close and personal (melee only). For this battle we only had 2 different Splinters to choose from. Before the match began I looked what teams my opponent was using and the level of cards they were using. Since this was a melee only match. I knew my opponent would not use Obsidian summoner. Which only left Wizard of Eastwood for Earth splinters, and Drake, Bright, and Quix for Dragon splinters. Based on that I made an educated guess to use Drake.
I positioned Mycelic Infantry in slot 1, do to the Shield ability. Second slot I chose Mycelic Morphoid for his thorn ability. And to put a spot inbetween him and my 3rd slot. Third slot I chose Disintegrator for demoralize ability (Demoralize ability reduces the attack of all enemy monsters). Fourth slot I used Fungus fiend to mitigate damage from attacking Disintegrator, just in case they used sneak monsters.
This educated guess strategy worked great.
I would definitely use this line up again if the conditions call for it.
Summary of My Thoughts:
I find this card useful in certain conditions. I do not believe this is a must have card for bronze modern league.
I would say rent the card first then decide if you really need it.
Thank you! And enjoy playing Splinterlands!
