Buying Cards for Their Lore and Beauty: Water Series | Tide Biter

This is a series that offers a look at Splinterlands from outside the gameplay aspect, but rather exploring it's vast world and both it's graphic and literary art which offer value on their very own if one stops to enjoy it.

Last post I wrote about the beautiful and noble River Nymph, and bid on her until I finally got her. Unfortunately, I accidentally sold her, so I'm buying her again because I want to have all the cards displayed on these posts in my collection.

I've decided to keep going with the water element because that way I might be able to find cards that can actually support my initial buy if I ever decide to go back to battling. Also, I'm looking at the cards from lowest price to highest, so I'll keep going this way until I reach a summoner, then I'll consider changing the element.

On this occasion, my attention was grabbed by Pelacor Deceiver and Venari Wavesmith, but none of the lores were really appealing to me. Though the Pelacor Deceiver actually has an interesting story about how the Pelacors came to have wings, and how they divided into factions, yet it didn't say anything particularly interesting about the creature itself.

I kept looking and next the Tide Biter caught my eye. I've always liked this card in battle, especially in Silver league when it gets Reflection Shield and is able to contain a lot of the blast damage, which is a big middle finger to Yodin Zaku, lol.

When I looked at the art up close in the big screen, it looked very different than the small sized image, I really liked the clothing and the magic sword.

The story was very compelling as well because I normally wouldn't choose a vampire, but in this case he uses his powers for justice. He was once a human sailor, a respected mage and captain of a ship with a successful record of victories in battle, until a vampire attack brought an end to this. He was bitten and thrown into the water.

From the lore page:

"His powerful connection with the water saved him. He healed his mortal wounds, but could not stop the vampirism from transforming him. He knew his old life was gone. He embraced a new life of piracy, sailing under the moon and drinking the blood of murderers and thieves. If he was to be cursed with this disease, he would use its power to enact his own form of justice".

The Tide Biter also dedicates his days to hunt down the vampire who transformed him.

Something I like about this card is that we all carry a certain darkness within, we've all suffered some distasteful experience in life that somehow led us away from our child innocence, and "tainted" us in a way.

What do you do when this happens? When the lights go out and you face the dark inside you? Do you let the dark take over and become resented against the world? Or do you use that power that experiences have given you to fuel a higher purpose? I find that an interesting reflection that stems off from this lore.

Sadly, I didn't find any fanart that I like from this card to share on this post. If you know of any, feel free to share in the comments so that I might integrate it here. If you do so, there'll be a little gift for you 😉

Want me to review a specific card? Don't hesitate to let me know and I'll go for it.
