Hi Guys! Happy New Year to Everyone here! In this post we are exploring on Splinterlands' Armored Up ruleset.
In an Armored Up ruleset, all units get a +2 armor buff at the beginning of the game.
Void Armor is a good ability to use in this ruleset as it ensures that magic attacks strike armor first.
Shatter is also another important ability to use as it will destroyed a heavily armored unit with a single hit.
One of the best summoner to use in an Armored Up ruleset is Immortalis. This is because Immortalis will give Shatter and Void to all units. Shatter will destroyed the opposing units armor while Void will halved incoming magic attack (which is likely to be heavily used due to magic attack can bypass armor). Immortalis is not cheap though.
Lets take a look at a Wild Silver ranked match with Armored Up as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Stampede and Armored Up with a max mana of 35. Only Fire, Earth and Dragon splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Obsidian | 4 | Summoner | If Death is allowed, then Astral Entity would have been a good summoner to use in this Armored Up ruleset. This is because Astral Entity will removed off 2 armor from opposing lineup. However since only Earth, Fire and Dragon are allowed, I decided to go with Obsidian which is an Earth summoner (I don't have Immortalis unfortunately). This is because Obsidian give +1 magic attack to magic attacking units and magic can bypass Armor. |
Lord Arianthus | 5 | 1st | I wouldn't be surprised if my opponent also went with magic attack to bypass armor so putting up Lord Arianthus as a tank would be a good choice in my opinion. Lord Arianthus has Shield, Void and Magic reflect ability meaning it can defend against not only magic but also ranged and melee attack. |
Moxian Rebel | 4 | 2nd | Moxian Rebel is a Rebellion unit that has Weapon Training. Putting it behind Lord Arianthus would give Lord Arianthus magic attack making it even more formidable. |
Thane Newsong | 5 | 3rd | I didn't put Thane Newsong on the 3rd position because of its Inspire ability. In fact Inspire is useless in my lineup as I don't intend to have any melee unit. I placed Thane Newsong here because it has good health and has no attack. This means it can get weapon trained by Moxian Rebel as well to gain magic attack. |
Mushroom Seer | 5 | 4th | As I mentioned I expect the opposing team to also put up magic units so Mushroom Seer would be great in countering that as it will reduce enemy magic attack by 1. That would also make Lord Arianthus much harder to kill. |
Goblin Psychic | 6 | 5th | I needed a healer to keep my tank alive as long as possible. |
Regal Peryton | 5 | 5th | Regal Peryton is a fast flying unit and could defend my backline against enemy sneaking units, if any, for a while. |
Total Mana: | 34 |
Opponent Lineup:
My opponent went with a Fire splinter lineup with Tarsa as the summoner and Tusk the Wide as the tank. Apparently my opponent also expecting a magic lineup from me which explained why Tusk was deployed. Tusk has Void which will reduced incoming magic attack by half.
End of Round 1:
My tank outperformed my opponent's tank in the starting round. Not only did my tank still has more than half its health left, it also reflected magic damage and hurt the opposing team magic units. Meanwhile my opponent's Tusk the Wide is dying.
My Regal Peryton also managed to dodge an attack but looks vulnerable. This is also why Armored Up is disadvantageous to melee and ranged as the extra armor allowed my Regal Peryton to still have full health even though it was hit. I need to break through the opponent frontline quickly to relieve pressure to my backline.
End of Round 2:
By the end of Round 2 my opponent has lost 2 units upfront, Tusk and Radiated Brute. Once my opponent lost Tusk, the entire opposing lineup became vulnerable as there was nothing to stop my magic attack. Armor wouldn't help at all as magic bypass armor. My Regal Peryton also managed to dodge both sneak attack and escaped unscathed this round.
End of Round 3:
Round 3 saw me killing off another 3 units from the opposing lineup. Although my Regal Peryton also got hit this time round, it wouldn't matter now as the opponent's last unit was now facing my tank. Yes my tank was still alive after round 3.
End of Round 4:
My Regal Peryton killed off my opponent last unit, Tenyii Striker. It was also perfect revenge for my Regal Peryton which was almost killed by the Tenyii Striker earlier.
KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to use my Lord Arianthus to tank incoming attacks while using my backline magic units to use magic attacks to bypass the enemy's armor. It works very well in this battle as my opponent tank couldn't outlast my Lord Arianthus. Weapon training also formed an important part of my strategy.
SUMMARY
There are a few strategies to use in an Armored Up ruleset. One is to use magic attacks like what I did in my battle above. Another is to use a unit with Void Armor to tank while you have units with Repair in the backline to keep it alive. Using summoner or units with Rust is also a good option. It really depends on what other conditions are accompanying the Armored Up ruleset so be flexible in your decision.

My guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is also looking for new members. For added incentive to joining us, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.
