Each week I bring to you another round of abilities from within the Splinterverse. One ability I have used quite rarely is that of Last Stand. So in order to educate myself I thought I should share with you the cards and their respective levels and costs required in order to gain the ability of Last Stand. Where possible, I have tried to make the costs as accurate as possible to the date of posting.
All costs are taken from Peakmonsters.com.
Last Stand:
Increases the stats of the last remaining monster on the lineup. Used correctly, this ability can flip the outcome of a battle into your favour. Just remember to keep the right monster in the last spot especially if you use a summoner with this ability.
Do you know which cards achieve Last Stand in Splinterlands?
Efreet Elder
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 0.455 | $ 0.455 | 1 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 9.300 | $ 9.300 | 1 |
With a good speed of 3, for a magic card, Efreet Elder is pretty decent. The good news here is only one is required to achieve Last Stand. As a magic card it is in the unusual position of being in the Fire deck which means you can utilise the element of surprise with magic in a Fire only ruleset - particularly in the lower leagues of Bronze and even silver. A good card and worth picking up a copy of at least. Worth taking to 4th level if you can to capitalise on the addition damage point and at this price it is pretty affordable.
Tinderlock
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 0.550 | $ 0.550 | 1 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 8.400 | $ 0.000 | 1 |
For a first level card Tinderlock is pretty good. With Close Range, it can still work in the first position and the Last Stand ability really helps to take this card to the next level, boosting its stats. In a Ranged only ruleset this is a nasty option to have available to you. A strong card and there was a point during the development of Riftwatchers where this card was considered meta. While it is no longer as strong as that, it is still pretty good. Worth picking up for certain as a Fire deck option.
Torhillo the Frozen
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 0.742 | $ 14.012 | 20 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 27.000 | $ 210.670 | 4 |
This is an incredibly strong card for an Anti-Magic tank and as an Epic it makes sense that there would be very few Gold Foils available on the market. With only 4 on the market the price is much over what you would like to pay. 3 cards are available at a reasonable $57. With a slow speed of one, this card would be incredible in a reverse speed ruleset and with the great health and high armour ratings it will be a card well worth having. Regular foil is certainly the way I'd go forward here.
Kron the Undying
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 40.990 | $ 190.00 | 6 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 1,499 | $ 1,499 | 2 |
Kron The Undying is an incredible card at every level. Gaining Last Standing on this card is nasty and something only a Llama Kron combo could previously achieve. Obviously this will come at a cost. But 3 base damage and 11 health is a pretty awesome offering no matter the level you are playing at - especially when combined with the Last Stand and Divine Shield abilities. I know I'd love this card but I'll settle for first level personally.
Scarred Llama Mage
Similar to the Kron above, Llama is a bit of a cheat code at times and the Cleanse ability makes matches in the Poison Fog that little bit easier. The biggest trick with this summoner is all about placement. Who do you want to overpower in the last spot? This card plus a Kron is a cheat code in Bronze. Worth the cost? Yes! Expensive? You bet!

Hero of Beyond
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |

Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 109.00 | $ 218.00 | 2 |
Similar Tinderlock in that this card has Close Range which is an excellent companion ability to Last Stand as it allows this card to get right into the face of the opponent and utilise the Last Stand boost. For seven mana you get two attack, speed and armour whilst 8 health is there to back it up and make sure this card survives. There are only seven available Gold Foils on the market and a Last Stand purchase would wipe two of those out.
Runemancer Attuat
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 4.067 | $ 12.202 | 3 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 53.00 | $ 53.00 | 1 |
For 9 mana you get an extremely effective card. 2 damage an and one speed is par for the course with magic cards at times but the real show stopper here is the 10 health and the Forcefield which make this a card which cannot be taken down with a major hit at once. Headwinds reduces ranged damage which is always an excellent ability to have in store but the star of the show is the combination of abilities and stats with Last Stand. Well worth the money in Regular Foil.
Cthulhu
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 19.500 | $ 185.00 | 11 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 439.990 | $ Not available | 4 |
This is an incredibly potent card and one which is rather rare. Having played in Gold levels and below I can count on the one hand how many times I have seen this card. Whilst Last stand will only be usable at the highest levels, this is a very strong card in the right situation. Flying makes this card harder to hit and Cripple can be used to reduce the health of the opponent especially in a Last Stand Situation. While this card is not the fastest. It hits hard and with the Stun and Weaken the opponent is left there feeling broken and ready for the killing blow. Expensive and not on my list for that reason.
Diamond Dragon
Cost Regular Foil BCX | Regular Foil Cost Last Stand | Total BCX Required |
---|---|---|
$ 11.00 | $ 63.00 | 6 |
Cost Gold Foil BCX | Gold Foil Cost Last Stand | Total Gold BCX Required |
$ 944.00 | $ 1,888.00 | 2 |
With a cost of ten mana you expect a strong card and boy do we have that here. Two magic damage, three speed and ten armour all work alongside seven health. For those of you lucky enough to take this to level three at a decent price of around $63 you get Flying and Slow which are a very tricky combination to play against alongside a Cleanse and Last Stand. All of which combine to make a very dangerous opponent so make sure if you see this you try to take it out nice and early. Last thing you want is a Diamond Dragon going into a Last Stand frenzy! Worth it for $63.
Do you disagree with any of my assessments?
Are there any cards here you would target first? I know I would love a Llama personally but I'll settle for a Tinderlock for now.
