Grinding a New Account & Some Notes to make it A better Experience

Opening a New Splinterlands Account

I've ran an account for 2 Seasons and have only hit Bronze II twice.

Both times I was quickly smashed back down to Bronze III.

Now, this account has been buffed somewhat;

  • Delegated 3000 SPS from another account

  • Added to a Guild

That's here most of the earned SPS has come from. The fact that it is my own Guild means that I don't have to contend with any "new account Bias" and be kicked for underperforming.

  • Delegated Cards, especially, Bronze strong cards, like Djinn O'Shannus.

Without, these Buffs, Support and Previous Knowledge, it would have been a very painful experience indeed being a New Player.

The Joy of Suffering

With the small hope of winning 6 Glint, the battles themselves have been fun to play.

With a sub-par win rate %, it means that the grind is a sadistic one.

The enjoyment comes from;

  • Fun battles, close wins and losses, some proud victories.
  • Glint in my eye. The aim being to hit 150 Glint & buy an Initiate Draw in order to slowly improve my deck one card at a time.

What would make the experience better for New Players?

A Community based delegation of SPS/Cards & Education

The initial boost from the Company of SPS was a great help.
But that ends & there isn't really any helpful directive to move forward after that.

The grind of playing is already a situation that takes some getting used to.
Once that initial boost is finished then there is no real help in moving forward to another stage.

That's where some hand holding can be of assistance.
Maybe the account gets delegated a deck, or series of cards, with an explainer about the aspects of Web3 gaming.
This education is important in immersing the New Player into Tokens, Cards, Abilities, and all the parts of this complex game.

I feel that without being educated into Splinterlands the New Player is left thinking that it is an unfun game with very little human interaction and will stagnate, then leave.

A discord link to a Community Based FAQ/Help/Chat

A place where a new player can engage with experienced players and other New Players.
This is another avenue to get an understanding of all of the "How To's" within the game.

This will also lead to delegations that can help.
It can also teach New Accounts how to protect their Keys & Hive Keychain.

Some splash Advertising that promotes Content Creators YouTube Channels

Our Content Creators work hard to provide quality content centred around Splinterlands.

Why not promote that within the Game environment?
This helps the Creators to get traction organically while also providing motivation for them to provide content aimed at New Players.

A Content Creator is already invested in promoting Splinterlands.
Just like @nateaguila War Room Strategy, it doesn't hurt to have a great Propaganda Department.

A Grind based drop of Glint.

In Modern, where it is a Human only League, trying to get through 50 energy is not an easy thing.

Would it be feasible to drop some Glint for battles played?
Or a time-based drop to avoid the just pressing "See Results"?

Maybe, You get 10 Glint once you have played the Time equivalent of 10 Battles.
This would make the grind for a Store Draw is that little bit closer.

Glint for exploring Lore

A player has the option to be taken to a Lore Page and learn about Splinterlands.

Or it can be a scripted set of information/stories/Lore that rewards the player with a card or some Glint.

More than an Auto Battler

I know about Land because I own Land.
But my new account doesn't know about Land.

In fact, there are many buttons all over the place.

We don't use drop down menus, so the pressing of a button can take you somewhere new, somewhere scary & beyond your understanding as a New Player.

Let's navigate around and have fun doing so.

Easter Eggs in a Digital World

Let us Guide the Player to all that is Splinterlands.
It can be a Navigating Journey to earn Rewards.

The Reward doesn't even need to be an obvious one.
We are a Digital Platform so why not add some hidden Easter Eggs around the Place?

There might be a clickable object, or a word highlighted that provides some Glint when clicked.

New Players Need To Be WOW-ed

My experience opening up a new account, trying to view it from blinkered understaning, makes me realise how limiting it is when you struggle to move forward.

Moreso, that the game has even more to unlock than auto-battling.
Yet, how does one eat a Centaur?
One bite at a time, with a splinkling of Fungus Flinger.

The Splinterlands Team has created a wonderful world.
The Community has created a space to find new friends.
The Content Creators working diligently to share the Wonder of Splinterlands.

Now, we need to incorporate them all & magick ourselves a Splinterlands Learning Golem.

Vonak!
