KULU SWIMHUNTER
Kulu Swimhunter is not really anyone's favorite card, except @torran loved the art of the card when it first came out, and we were guessing like crazy: Reach? Evasion? Silence? Weaken?
Nope, none of those.
I guess he's kind of kulu even without those abilities though.
First, some info on Kulu Swimhunter:
THEME | Kulu Swimhunter |

Edition | CHAOS |
Rarity | COMMON |
Splinter | WATER |
Attack Type | Ranged |
Kulu Swimhunters are members of a race of squid-like creatures that hunt in packs. They use their multiple tentacles to wield all manner of projectiles, to include spears, coral, and even fish. They are very aggressive and are known to traverse oceans, lakes, and rivers, killing for sport and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. They do not value gold or glory and will ally themselves with whoever promises the greatest opportunity to hunt and kill.
Kulu Swimhunter is kind of boring: It has no abilities! It's just ranged attack, health, and speed. This sounds like it sucks completely, but honestly, it's not really a bad card, it's just not a very often used card.
Once she hits level 3, she has gained +1 Health and +1 Speed, giving her better tanking capabilities than previously.
At Level 6, Kulu Swimhunter gets +1 Range, becoming a much more threatening attacker for 4 Mana.
Her final stats at Level 10 are 4 Ranged, 5 Speed, 6 Health
She costs about $0.07 per BCX in her Normal Foil variant, and about $1.05 per BCX for a Gold Foil.
**LEVEL COSTS**
Level 3 costs about **$1** for Normal Foil and **1.05** for GF this is where she gains **+1 Melee**
Level 6 costs **$7** for Normal Foil and **$9.45** for GF this is where she gains **Giant Killer**
Max Level costs **$28 for Normal and about $40 for Gold** (based on 1 BCX prices)
*Keep in mind that higher BCX Cards come with discounts, this is the math for purchasing 1 BCX Cards, which you should NOT do if you're planning to level.*

Investing in Normal Foils: In my opinion, this card is NOT an investment worthy card at all: It would require a +1 Range Summoner, and would STILL be outclassed by many other cards due to its lack of abilities. Ultimately, holding Kulu Swimhunter would come down to Maxed copies, or the Gold Foils:
Investing in Gold Foils: To be honest, I still don't recommend a Gold Foil of this card from an investment standpoint: It's just not a great card, it's not a bad card, it's not low enough mana to be valuable, it's not a neutral or dragon, and it's easily replaced by any future ranged card, so this is a card somebody would be getting purely for gameplay, CP, or Rental reasons.
𝔾𝕒𝕞𝕖𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕪 𝕍𝕒𝕝𝕦𝕖
I don't need to divide this one up into sections: Kulu Swimhunter is unique in being the most OK-est card in the game. He's not really bad, but he's also not really good, and he manages to do that consistently across all leagues.
As such, I give him a 5/10 overall, with the caveat that he may be slightly better in Bronze/Novice, at a 6, and he might be slightly worse in Diamond/Champion, at a 4

With Kulu Swimhunter, you can generally use any Summoner out of Water, but a few standout as particularly good choices because Kulu tends to do best in Low Mana:
Kelya is king, offering +1 Armor and +1 Speed, this gives Kulu a bit more lethality but also a lot more defensive characteristics in its armor, which protects it from a Melee/Ranged attack, and the increased speed gives it a chance to dodge, and makes it attack faster.
Next up for Kulu is not what you'd expect: I bet you were thinking I'd say something like Lir Deepswimmer here, but in actuality: Bortus is my choice, as Kulu is best in low mana, and the -1 Magic can completely negate many of the heavy hitting magic attackers in low mana, where the highest you will likely deal with is 2 Magic for the lower leagues.
Dragons have some other, versatile options:
Selenia Sky is always an awesome choice for a low cost Ranged Attacker, as she immediately boosts his Ranged damage to 3 Range Damage at level 1, making him a very powerful card to play in low mana teams.
Drake of Arnak is also pretty solid, as he gives you +1 Armor, and this can be pretty useful if you're looking to utilize some Dragon cards, such as Zyvax, Dragonling Bowman, or other cards to compliment your Kulu, or maybe you wanna throw a Djinn Chwala up front, either way, while he's not as good as Kelya in stats, he brings new team members and compositions to your strategy.

As a Ranged Attacker, this card is best played in the back positions and protected by 1 or 2 Melee Attackers and maybe a Magic attacker as well. He works best as Snipe bait in Position 3 for your stronger ranged attackers, or as a Sneak bait in Position 6.
This changes when you play him in Close Range
ℙ𝕣𝕖𝕗𝕖𝕣𝕣𝕖𝕕 𝕄𝕠𝕕𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕖𝕣𝕤
- No Abilities is one of Kulu Swimhunter's specialty areas, as he naturally has no abilities, and makes up for it in stats.
- Evens allows the use of Kulu Swimhunter
- Little League is perfect for Swimhunter, and a place where Swimhunter actually might be one of the more solid picks for Water.
- Close Range is another good ruleset for Kulu Swimhunter, allowing him to act as a tank/frontline.
ℕ𝕠𝕥 ℝ𝕖𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕕 𝕄𝕠𝕕𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕖𝕣𝕤
- The Odds ruleset will prevent you from utilizing Kulu Swimhunter.
- Earthquake eats right through his health, so he doesn't work too well in Earthquake
- Poison also eats right through his health, so he doesn't have a lot of survivability in these matchups.

Close Ranged, Weak Magic, 25 Mana, and Death, Water, and Dragon Splinters.
This was almost the perfect battle for Kulu Swimhunter: Clsoe Ranged is a huge bonus for Kulu, and Weak Magic helps Kulu defend itself and tank better with some Armor from a Venari Wavesmith pairing. You'd be surprised how few people use Venari Wavesmith now.
That Sea Monster lasted about halfway into round 2 before falling to Axe Master and Kulu combination. The staggered speeds on my opponent's side allow me to quickly burst down this bad boi nearly instantly, and move on to the riff raff remaining.
Kulu and Axe Master make short work of everything else, out damaging CK's Heal and slipping through Halfling Alchemist before he can Halve anybody's damage.
It was over the minute Sea Monster fell.
