Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game and there are some interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight that I had with Harklaw.
Featured cards
Harklaw is a death splinter that costs 8 mana. This card starts off with the shield ability. It learns immunity at level 2 and demoralize at level 3. I have this card at level 3 but I only have a few summoners that allow it to have the demoralize ability. So I think this is a great tank monster.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Close Range and Tis But Scratches. This means that all monsters gain the cripple ability and all range monsters also gain the close range ability. There are 32 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, death, or dragon splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 magic and health |
Harklaw | 8 | 1st | Immunity, Shield and Demoralize. |
Venari Bonesmith | 4 | 2nd | Life Leech and Poison |
Revealer | 4 | 3rd | Immunity and Stun |
Silent Sha-vi | 5 | 4th | Sneak |
Ravenhood Warden | 4 | 5th | Inspire and Protect |
Weirding Warrior | 2 | 6th | Shatter |
Total Mana: | 31 |
My summoner is Thaddius Brood because it reduces health and magic by 1. It also lets me play Harklaw at level 3. In this fight, I have Harklaw as my tank and my summoner already reduced the magic damage. Combined with its abilities, it should give me some time to take out my opponent's monsters. My second monster is Venari Bonesmith for it's life leech and poison. Then I have Revealer with immunity and stun. I also have one sneak monster to at least hurt the backline. Then I have two more ranged monsters. One of which has inspire and protect.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match will be tough but I do think that I have a slight advantage because of Hawklaw and my summoner. It does reduce my opponent's damage, but I am worried about missing my attacks. I am glad that my opponent has no way of targeting my backline.
Round 4
I missed quite a few attacks so it took 3 rounds to take out some of my opponent's monsters but my Harklaw is almost dead. It did do its job of surviving as my damage dealers dealt damage. All of those resurrections were annoying to deal with.
Round 5
Me and my opponent lost a monster but my Hawklaw is now dead. I am glad that I took out all of the melee monsters before it died. I am worried about the backfire monster, but once that is dead, I should be able to kill off my opponent.
Round 7
My opponent is down to two monsters left and I lost all of my ranged monsters to that backfire monster. The combination of flying, dodge and backfire is quite hard to deal with. I am glad that my poison landed as it allowed me to slowly decrease its health. At this point, I can't lose. My life leech will be able to outlast my opponent.
I ended up winning the match a few rounds later with my magic monsters.
Conclusion
The battle this time around did not go exactly as expected. The Harklaw did well as my tank as it survived quite long until those magic monsters destroyed it. It did its job though as I took out 3 monsters in that time period. I wasn't expecting Riftwing to be so dangerous and for it to take so long to kill. However, I was able to slowly kill it with my magic monsters and win the match.
