Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Winning because my card had a higher level

in #hive-13323last month

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where having a higher level card gave me the win over my opponent.

Attack Order

I got the information from here, but the attack order is decided by speed, attack type, rarity, level, then random if all of the above is equal. So in a normal match, having a higher-level card will give you an advantage (besides the upgraded stats/abilities). In the fight below, my opponent and I used the same monster but I won because I had a higher-level card so I was guaranteed to attack first. The only thing that I learned from that article was that Brawls gives priority to the home team when things are equal.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Five Alive, Might Makes Right, and Briar patch. This means that all monsters gain the thorns, 5 monsters can be used and only monsters with 3 more attack in a stat can be used. There is 13 mana available and I am left with the choice of earth, life, or dragon splinter.

Total Mana:18

I use Quix the Devious as my summoner because it gives -1 speed and ranged attack. Night Reaper is my tank and main damage dealer with flying and Wing Break. Then I have Stitch Leech with sneak monster even though there are thorns in the ruleset. It won't last long but dealing some extra damage is always nice.

Round 1

At first glance, I already know that I will win this match. My summoner reduces speed by 1 but his summoner increases speed by 1 so there is no speed advantage on either side and we are both using Night Reaper. However, I do have a level advantage over my opponent's Night Reaper, so I will always be able to attack first. Since we are dealing with magic monsters and we can't miss, this attack order advantage means that I have this match won.

I ended up winning the match the following turn.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly like I expected. My choices were limited due to the Might Makes Right ruleset and melee monsters were not very appealing due to the thorns. So I went with Night Reaper as my monster and I guess my opponent also had a similar idea. However, I had a level advantage and that meant that I won in the attack order and won this match. It is important to consider the level of cards as attacking first tends to be more advantageous in the long run. Levels in cards also means more stats and abilities so it expands your options.

You can see my entire match here.

Thanks for this interesting battle report! For my part, I'm quite new to the game. I have level 2 cards, but I can't use them because I need level 2 summoners as well. Can you win summoners with Glints? Or are these cards only available for purchase in the marketplace?

There used to be summoners in the reward cards but there isn't any right now. I think you can only buy them for now.

I don't get the point of your opponent picking gladiator summoner when he didn't use any gladiator 😂

It was probably his only choice for a dragon summoner. I don't think he had much choice in cards to pick due to the ruleset.

I was wondering what your opponent was thinking fielding only one card, but then I remembered that he probably didn't have card option because of the Ruleset.

Yea. The new rulesets makes it hard to set up a proper lineup. I found myself thinking about what would fit when you can only use monsters with more than 3 attack.

Haha, it's truly limiting and this are the type of Rulesets that players with enough deck depth with cherish
