About a year and a half ago I had this 'ah ha moment'...
This game called #Splinterlands had just released it's Dice mini-deck and the Untamed packs where slowly being sold to players and investors. I'm not sure what exactly clicked in me, but something told me to get off my butt and take a good look at the NFT side of this game.
I started seeing the prices of the gold foil legendaries and decided to dive into buying my first...
I remember when I bought Scale Doctor, I posted it in my Discord server and the feedback I got was...
"Not my favorite card, but it's a Gold Foil so that's good!"
I didn't even know what that meant....
I just knew, this was a very limited card and I understood the basic collecting of assets...The more rare something is, the value usually goes up. So I ended up paying around $60 for this card and at that time, it was the most I have ever spent on any NFT online....Ever!
Fast forward, and Scale Doctor is listed around 950 bucks right now and it makes me look like a genius LOL
That was over a year ago and since then I have continued to buy Gold Foil Legendaries up until the launch of SPS. After that, the price of these things exploded where we are seeing $900 considered 'cheap' for an Untamed / Dice card.
And since then I have actually learned the game and what each of these cards meant to the actual use case of the NFT...
Which leads me to....Chaos Legion!
I have always wanted at least one copy of each GFL in the deck, but the prices have been around $500-$300 since launch. However we are seeing a dip since more and more cards as coming to the market.
5 of the new GFLs are now under $100 and getting very close to my target where I plan to buy them all up...
But when do I pull the trigger?
I'm not sure how low they will go but I have a number in my head...
Between $50-75 each is kind of my 'ape in' target. And yeah, there is no guarantee that they will get that low, but with another 7 million packs still for sale...The chances are the prices continue to fall.
Of course, I couldn't wait lol
Zyvak Vuul seems to be the ugly duckling of Chaos Legion, similar to what Scale Doctor was when I bought him. And I have never used this card in a battle, but guess what....It's a gold foil legendary card and I simply rented him out!
I bought him around $90 which is a little higher than I wanted to spend, but I have to say...it felt good to dip in the GFL market again!
This is what I really enjoy about the Splinterlands experience, the collectibility of these cards! Combined with the use case of them and knowing that there is a limited supply of them, makes me excited for the future of holding these assets.
What about you?
Do you have a game plan to approach the market buys for any group of cards in the game?
Are you waiting for prices to dip even further?
And which card do you have your eye on the most??
