Portals Spinners are members of the Cult of the Rift, a faction within the Chaos Legion that harnesses rift magic to cast deadly spells.
Portal Spinners siphon life magic from their surroundings to open mini-rifts in the fabric of reality. Some thought to use these portals to travel between realms. However, after attempting to do so, many a Portal Spinner was consumed by whatever foul beasts dwelled on the other side of the portal. Others emerged... rearranged... and either dead or wishing they were dead.
Now, Portal Spinners simply use their portals to launch chaotic and random attacks against their enemies. They might open one portal beneath a fallen sword, boulder, or other weapon of convenience and a second portal above their enemies, sending the weapon through the rift and crashing down on its unsuspecting victim.
If facing enemies capable of flight, Portal Spinners have been known to use their portals to drop nets upon their foes, grounding them.

Stats & Abilities
PORTAL SPINNER is one of the monsters in Chaos Legion blessed with the ability SCATTERSHOT. Portal Spinner is a ranged attacking monsters with unpredicted attacks. It has also a SNARE ability which can remove the Flying ability of target monsters. Portal Spinner has 1-2 armors to protect them from physical attacks whether melee or ranged. Their attaks can ranged from 2 to 4 ranged damage.

SCATTERSHOT : This monster's attacks hit a random enemy target. SCATTERSHOT is one of the direct counter against TAUNT ability as it will not attack the monster's with TAUNT ability, rather it will randomly hit enemy monster. Since this monster attack randomly, there is also a risk in a way that even you cannot predict who will be hit. It may or may not be a good thing, but still having a monster with Scattershot is great especially if you can utilize it depending on the rules. BLAST ability is the best combo ability for Scattershot as you can hit randomly and the blast effect can be scattered as well. Usually TAUNT is the one option to minimized the effect of blast, but with SCATTERSHOT, TAUNT will be useless for those monsters with Scattershot. | |
SNARE : When attacking enemies with Flying, removes the Flying ability and cannot miss. SNARE is the counter ability against FLYING ability as Snare ability can remove the Flying ability. Aside from removing the Flying ability, it also gives a 100% chance to hit those flying monsters. This ability becomes really effective when you have Earthquake rule in the match. |
Summoner Compatibility
LIFE Splinter has two new Summoner from the Chaos Legion.
General Sloan increases the fire power of ranged attacking monsters. This Summoner turns the Life Splinter into a Ranged specialist. You can see a lot of ranged line-up when facing General Sloan.
Portal Spinner receives increase ranged damage when partnered with this ability.
Grandmaster Rathe is a legendary Summoner which focus on defense and enhancing counter abilities. This Summoner provides all monsters 1 additional armor to protect friendly monsters. It also provides the Void Armor ability turning friendly armors to absorb Magic damage aside from Melee or Ranged damage. Then to enhance the counter abilties, it provides the Amplify ability to all monsters increasing the damage inflicted to enemy monsters by Thorns, Magic Reflect, and Return Fire.
Portal Spinner receives additional armor which makes increase its armor to 3. And with the Void ability, this gives Portal Spinner protection from Magic damage.

EXPLOSIVE WEAPONRY - All Monsters have the Blast ability. In this ruleset, it is best to have monsters with high speed and have attack ability like Sneak, Opportunity, or Snipe as this can further spread the damage if you hit monsters in the middle. But TAUNT combined with REFLECTION SHIELD can easily counter the Blast combine with Sneak, Snipe or Opportunity. PORTAL SPINNER has the SCATTERSHOT ability which is not affected by TAUNT ability. And with Scattershot, it has a higher chance to hit the monster in the middle spreading the blast damage. Snipe, Sneak or Opportunity can be countered even without Taunt if you know how to properly position your monsters, but Scattershot that won't work since even you cannot predict which monster will be hit. | |
CLOSE RANGE - Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles. Ranged monsters can only attack when they are in the backline position. This ruleset gives PORTAL SPINNER and other ranged monsters the capability to attack even in the first position. With this, you don't have to worry about ranged monsters not being able to attack when they are already in the front. |

MY LINE-UP
In this match, the Odd Ones Out ruleset limits our monster selection. We are only allowed to choose from monsters with Odd mana. This means we have to strategize based on the list of available monsters. While the Healed Out removes the healing abilities from monsters and summoner. I opted to go for Life Splinter with the intent to utilize the Void Armor and armor Repair to focus on regenarating armors since we cannot use heal to regen our health.
Summoner:
- Grandmaster Rathe : I opted to used Grandmaster Rathe to strengthen my defense from all kinds of attack whether melee, ranged, or magic damage. The Void Armor and the additional plus 1 armor provided to all friendly monsters will be a great combo for armore Repair abilities.
Monster:
Disintegrator - has the Demoralize ability that can reduce the melee damage of all enemy line-up. It also has the Trample ability that can allow this monster to attack again if the targeted monster dies from its attack. Disintegrator also has 3 armor which fits perfectly in our current strategy.
Adelade Brightwing - is a magic damage with Repair and Resurrect ability. The Repair ability regenerates the armor of the friendly monster with the most damage armor. Even though we cannot use healing abilities to regenerate health, regenerating the armors combined with Void Armor is enough to block all kinds of attacks. The Void Armor makes the armor work like an extension of monster's health.
Lone Boatman - is a ranged monster with Snipe and Repair ability at level 5. The Snipe ability allows this monster to prioritize enemy monster having no-attack, ranged, or magic damage. While the Repair ability provides the regeneration of friendly monster's armor.
Scavo Hireling - is a support monster that has Repair ability. Similar with Adelade Brigthwing and Lone Boatman, the Repair will help regenerate the armors of our friendly monsters.
Portal Spinner - our featured monster is a ranged monster with Scattershot ability. This allows our team to be unpredicted as our attacks can land randomly. It has 2 armor by default which means the Void Armor will be a great addition for defense perspective.
Gem Meteor - this monster also has the Scattershot ability. Portal Spinner has armor for defense while Gem Meteor has high speed to evade attacks.
Take Away:
The introduction of Grandmaster Rathe provides a new strategy when playing Life Spinner. Combined with armor Repair ability from monsters, this gives Life Splinter a way to counter magic line-up.
Scattershot is an awesome ability. Its randomness gives us some pros and cons. You have to understand this ability to utilize it.
Portal Spinner is a good card to invest and level up. Both Scattershot and Snare ability are abilities that you may use depending on the situation, but the base damage is high for a 5 mana ranged monster.
