The Splinterlands battles are evolving with new and improved cards presented in the Rebellion edition, each new ability from Rebellion is making it hard to crack the battles, and players are enjoying it when they use new cards.
What if you fight a battle and lose your most important card before the start of a normal battle? Now, it is possible, thanks to Ambush as it can be fatal sometimes. Today, we'll talk about Ambush ability from the Rebellion set and also look into some interesting teams using an Ambush card.
So, without waiting further let's see how this new ability changes the outcome of a battle if used properly.
How Ambush Works?
Ambush is a versatile ability from the Rebellion edition, the ability has uniquely given its special round that starts before the main battle commences.
When a monster with the Ambush ability is placed in a battle lineup, the battle starts with a special round called Ambush, but all monsters receive status effects before the Ambush round.
The Ambush monster will automatically hit an enemy unit according to its attack ability. If it has Sneak ability, it will attack the last monster in the backline, or if the monster has no ability, it will simply attack the first enemy unit.
This is a bonus attack that occurs on its own, but this ability can be pretty lethal if the Ambush unit gets special attack-boosting buffs.
Ambush Monsters in Battles
To look further into this ability, we have to watch this video of 3 different Ambush monsters in 3 different battles. The monsters used in this video have different abilities along with Ambush skills, so you'll get to know how each Ambush unit's attack triggers during the Ambush round.
Battle 1 shows a melee Ambush monster with Sneak ability, once the status effects are applied on all monsters the Ambush round starts, and Gobalano Soldier attacks the last enemy unit using his Sneak ability.
If he had a boosted attack, the enemy unit would have died before the actual battle commencement.
Battle 2 shows another Ambush monster called Sultry Barmaid, she has no other attack ability except Ambush.
When the Ambush round starts Sultry Barmaid hits Khmer Princess and removes its Divine Shield and this helps Isgald Vorst to remove her from the battlefield. If there was no Ambush monster, there would be no extra attack and battle might be lost.
So, we have learned that it is very beneficial to have an extra attack in a battle that could change the battle outcome.
Battle 3 is fought between Dragon and Earth units, I have used Drybone Bowdog with Ambush and Scattershot abilities.
As you see, Bowdog shoots a random target during the Ambush round, he hits Void Dragon using his Scattershot ability. Now, it is quite clear that the Ambush monster's attack will follow attack ability rules in a battle, and targeting a unit is based on what attack ability that monster holds.
Advantages of Ambush Ability
- The unit gains a bonus attack and that attack can be pretty fatal in some cases.
- Ambush monster may attack the same monster and cause more harm to it or kill it in round 1 after the Ambush round.
- Ambush attack helps remove Divine Shield or normal armor from a monster making it vulnerable to take damage in actual battle.
- There is a Dragon summoner in the Rebellion edition who can apply Ambush ability to 2 units.
- Most Ambush units cost low mana, therefore look good for low mana battles.
Disadvantage of Ambush Ability
- Ambush only occurs once per battle and then the Ambush unit will behave like a normal unit.
- Ambush units have typically low health and low attack points, they can be killed easily.
Cards with Ambush Ability
Ambush units can be found in Fire, Water, Death, and Dragon units, although there is one neutral unit that can be used along with any faction.
Gobalano Soldier is a common Fire unit with Ambush and Sneak abilities, he receives Shatter ability from level 4 onwards. With its low mana cost, he can be a favorite monster for Fire deck lovers. Gobalano Soldier can be a perfect card for Little League ruleset as can remove low-heath monsters very easily with a little attack boost.
Rush Townsend is a legendary monster from Fire Element, his 4 ranged attack can be a nightmare for tank units as he can easily destroy them within 2 or 3 blows. He possesses Ambush and Affliction at level 1, gains Piercing at level 3, and learns to Amplify indirect attacks at level 4.
Sultry Barmaid hails from the Water Element and she only has Ambush at level 1 and later at level 3, she receives Stun ability. She costs 5 mana to be placed in a battle and deal 2 damage up to level 7, but she gains 3 ranged attack points from level 8 onwards. She can be a killer unit if her attack is boosted using a summoner with +2 Ranged Attack.
Chaos Jailer is an opportunity attacker, he looks for the weakest unit and tries to down him if possible. Chaos Jailer is the only rare unit in the Death faction, but he is the deadliest of all units as he knows how to poison his targets. Chaos Jailer gains Poison ability at level 2 and that's why it is a high-demand card in the market. He can also slow down the speed of his opponents from level 5 after getting Slow ability.
Akane is a legendary card from the Dragon faction, it offers 2 tactical abilities, when the battle starts, the summoner will ask you to select either Lookout for 1 unit or give Ambush to 2 units. Now, imagine, that if you have two powerful cards with Ambush, they both will have bonus attacks in the Ambush round. Akane is a very expensive card in the market at the moment. Since, there is no Ambush monster in the Dragon faction, using Akane you can easily assign Ambush ability to 2 Dragon cards in a battle.
Drybone Bowdog is a rare neutral unit and possesses only Scattershot and Ambush abilities, but his attack, health, and speed points increase gradually at each new level. If you like randomness, this unit can be good for you, as he shoots at random targets best on their luck. You can use this card along with any other Ambush card to maximize the damage to enemy units in the Ambush round.
Ambush monsters are new to many players, but they are adopting new strategies to increase the usefulness of Ambush cards because a low attack would not hurt, but a powerful blow can make a difference in the battle.
If you have tried Ambush monsters in your battle, then feel free to share your battle experiences in the comment section.
