Moving up to Silver League with the Life-Relearnt Experimental Account

in #hive-133233 years ago

After a long time of painfully slow growth, I got a lucky break and received a legendary card from daily quest reward chest.

This gave me enough collection power to allow advancement into silver league, but with some being rented out I didn't have all the card power sitting in my account. There were a few days left until the end of the season, so I started pulling back some of the leased cards in order to get that CP working for me again. As it happened, I couldn't pull enough back in time without cutting someone's lease short and I wasn't going to do that, but I also wasn't going to be able to gain enough points to hit silver III anyway before the season ended. So I waited for the following season to be able to reach that goal, which I did just hours before season end.

The rewards actually aren't much bigger once you're in silver III, only one more reward chest for completing a daily quest and three more for the end of the season. So just squeezing in only netted me 4 more reward chests. However, I started the next season in bronze II, which meant I could immediately start earning a little DEC on wins instead of having to slog my way out of bronze III first.

I noticed that a lot of my losses on my main account to low level teams were when they had mostly legendary and epic cards on the team. I had gathered a fair amount of credits from bronze level reward chests, so I decided to see what I could afford on Chaos Legion cards, currently the lowest priced cards on the market while the packs are still available for sale. All of the legendary cards were out of my price range, but not all of the epic cards. So I got myself three of them. Ironically, most bronze league battles are low mana and most epic cards are high mana, so I didn't really get the chance to use them to help me get up into silver league anyway. I had to hone my skills better instead.

This season I managed to get into silver III relatively early on and it's actually easier to win in that league than in the bronze leagues so I've been finding it much easier to complete my daily quests. I'm getting double the reward chests (that sounds much better than two instead of one 😉) I can win DEC instead of credits and my chances of winning cards is higher too, which means building my card power should be easier and faster. I'm already noticing more card wins when opening chests.

The mana cap for battles is often higher than it is in bronze, so I've had the opportunity to try the epic cards more often. Higher mana battles certainly give you a wider variety of options. You also get more variety in rulesets, so it's fun playing your teams to work with them.

Of the 3 epic cards I got, the one I've used the most is Prismologist. Her ability is blast which does damage to neighbouring monsters as well as the target. Her damage is high, she's shielded and has a reasonable health level.

The other two cards I'm actually still trying to figure out how to best use. Their ability is recharge which means that they will do three times the damage, but only every other round. It sounds great, but it means they have to survive the round before they can even make an attack. I haven't tried Insidious Warlock yet, but Temporal Master has yet to survive the first round for me. The low mana makes it a target for opportunity and it will also be on the radar of snipe monsters. That's a lot to try and account for. I'm thinking that the level up ruleset might be the best time to play the card, or perhaps in a team with a taunt monster.

I'm really pleased to have reached this point with the experiment, but it's been a test in patience. I've left my spare Mylor Crowling on lease, because his collection power is only 40, so he'll give me a better return being rented out than boosting my CP.

I started the account in August 2020 with the $10 purchase of the summoners spellbook and this is where it stands today value wise:

i do love my splinterlands :-)

i just got my baby account into Silver III tonight. so that is exciting :-)

It is probably more exciting than it should be! 😆 Got to enjoy the little things.

There are so many new cards, i can't keep up with all of it. I have to learn all things all over again as I was playing quite a lot some time ago.

New cards and new abilities. It does take quite a lot of keeping up.

Congrats on getting the legendary card. It's really hard to get the legendary card from the daily reward chest.

I think Temporal Master and Insidious Warlock are not good to be used in the battle. They have a small amount of health and as you said that they become targets for enemy Monsters that have Opportunity and Snipe abilities. They will attack every 2 rounds and it's kinda waste if they attack enemy monsters leaving only 1 health.

You have a really nice cards collection in this account. I can see there are cards from beta, dice, and untamed edition. Did you buy it?

!PIZZA

I have been hit by cards with this ability and it makes a big impact when I am, but I think they were higher mana cards with more life.

I've had the account for about a year and a half, so some of the cards were rewards from the untamed period, then the rest I bought. Back when I started there weren't any restrictions on the leagues, so you could advance through the leagues without needing collection power. I think I hit diamond III once. It wasn't long before the restrictions were brought in, however, so I was glad I'd invested in some cards with my DEC winnings while I could. Every change after that made things harder and harder to grow the account, plus with the SPS airdrop announcement all packs sold out and card prices shot up. If just saved up enough DEC to buy my first pack too! At one point Goblin Mech was just a few cents. The Chicken and Ooze were good investments too.

Recharge is a new ability and so far only 5 Monsters owned it. I usually use Zyvax Vuul ( dragon ) and Uriel the Purifier ( Life ) in my scholarship account. They have big health but cost a lot of mana tho. I only use them in the high mana battle. Recharge ability is really useful when there is Explosive Weaponry ruleset in which all monsters have blast ability.

Oh, I see. Thank you for the answer. There is a lot of different price between the old and new cards. Maybe it was caused by all of the old cards have been printed out. So far my card collections have 16,370 CP are worth $140 while your card collections with 15,775 CP are worth $400. I wish I know this game early😝.

You are still in fairly early. We're only on the fourth pack release, so there will come a point where others will be wishing they got in a early as you. Invest in the Chaos Legion while they are still cheap. There are some really good cards. I need to make sure I'm getting some of the starter cards while they're still a good price. I wish Cerberus had been within my reach for this account. I miss it now we've lost the beta starters. Now it's way out of my reach!

I think when they release the modern and wild I'll rent out my betas and focus on improving my modern cards.

Wow, how come I never realized? Thank you very much for the valuable advice. This opened up my thoughts on what to do next in this game.

I will focus on buying and investing cards using payments from the blog from now on. I have 140k DEC but I bought it when it was peak. So it's a little painful to buy cards using the existing DEC😂.

Thanks again and have a nice day.

wow i didn't know you played!

I recently got a hold of a Harklaw too, but i had to buy that one off the market. I leveled it to level 2 and am now renting it onto the market to get them sweet sweet DEC candies.

I'm trying to get into Bronze 1, but its fckin hard man lol.

Regarding how to use the two cards with Recharge, check this line up:

Good idea to rent it out. Once I have enough collection power to sit firmly in silver III I'll start renting my spares out again. At the moment I'm only just over the line.

It is sooo hard to get through bronze, both in gaining the CP and in battling! Have you bought in much? I can't imagine starting from scratch now with only buying the spellbook.

Did you mean to link the Wavebrood post? That has the Close Range ability. I don't see any with Recharge. Good to see it in action, though. I recently got that one on my main account, but that's mostly in gold league and my opponents make quick work of it at level one.

Hey bro

i haven't bought into SL much, just under $100 in specific epic cards and summoners, which i try to level to level 2. Thats where the DEC starts coming in from renting.

What i do is try to get to Bronze II then stop and rent on the remaining 7 days of the season, and just accumulate the DEC this way, til i get bored and decide to buy more cards.

About the Recharge, i showed you the Wavebrood battle because often times using that Wave Brood lineup will land you long ass battles, so maybe putting in say...Temporal Master would be useful.

Ah, I'm with you now. I was wondering if a taunt would help, yet I missed that hint completely. 😅

Summoners are the important ones. Pricey, though, especially when you're just working from earnings. 😆 I really wanted to level up Mylor when the Dice were still out, but only managed to get two. Glad I didn't combine them, as I can rent the spare out now.

I used to rent card to gain more power, lately i don't do that often, because i try to buy affordable card and cards i use, and still not enough power to climb into silver III, need more time and effort for me.

I was going to look into rental, but couldn't bring myself to take a risk that might not gain me anything, if I could save it and buy for long term investment instead. It's taken a while to get to this point and when I started it was much easier to earn.
