Season 140 has finished and I've reached yet again my highest position in modern since a long time. At one point I thought I might break into Diamond I, but it was not to be, although I was close.. This season also marks the end of the chaos legion rewards cards and they go out with a bang.
There has been a huge number of these cards printed and many people own them at max level or near about. The unbinding of these cards can now take place although the cost is really prohibitive that it doesn't make sense to do this sadly. Many players and collectors earned these cards and now can't unbind them, so our accounts are effectively becoming soulbound along with the Glad cards.
I saw some stats that around 40m DEC has been burned to unbind cards, so some players still went ahead and unlocked, although it is money wasted imo, that you could use to strengthen your deck. I do not understand the logic of why the team made it so prohibitive against the wishes of the community.
The good news is that I started the new season in Gold I instead of the awful silver league or even as low down as Gold II like last season. The higher league placing was also very good for my SPS earnings, although the value of this has collapsed and continues to do so.
In the season, I was working on earning as much glint as possible to try and max out the remainder of my chaos legion soulbound cards. In the end I got an extra legendary and was close to maxing out my common cards and rare cards. Once the cost to draw cards was increased, it made no sense to do that anymore sadly.
My ranking was over 320 points higher than last season where I had hit 2800. My End of Season glint earnings were nearly 125k which was more than double the last season, this was helped by renting 300k extra SPS, buying extra energy and playing in higher leagues.
With my glints, I first bought legendaries. They alls seem to be 1 mana cards and nothing very exciting at first glance.
After this I bought some common cards and will focus on leveling them up first of all. So far I have some at level 2 already.
There were some changes to the glint shop as was announced a slight increase of the cost of chests and rarity draws. Slight being 50% in this case! This was quite a shock as it is a big increase. The chests have already been badly nerfed and now rarity draws will be 50% more expensive too.
With the huge card inflation from soulbound cards, it is not totally unexpected from the team. We seem to be in a situation where the soulbound cards are now the core focus of the cardset for Splinterlands and buying NFTs or any assets doesn't make sense due to being either too expensive when you can earn free cards and they will quickly lose their value when they rotate into Wild.
I certainly hope the team might again look at card power as an important factor, especially for earning rewards and soulbound cards, as the current model doesn't seem sustainable.
I play in just modern but have cards that I cannot use and that are losing value each day, this doesn't motivate me too much to buy more cards and leaves me only the question if I should actually sell them?
SPS has remained steady during the last season although dipping hard initially. DEC has also remained steady compared to last season. There was some news about the VOUCHER token no longer being tradable from outside the game and usecases being removed for buying energy/wild pass. So far you can still use to buy energy and the wild pass though.
I saw the price went up slightly maybe because of this. A simplification of the token system is certainly welcome in Splinterlands. The real laggard however seems to be Hive which shows a nearly 20% drop in the last 2 weeks. The chain is really suffering right now with stagnation and repercussions of inflation that cannot be lowered. Although the HBD interest rate was recently lowered from 20% to 15%, this impact will take some time to have any effect.
Huge withdrawals like the recent $150k taken by value plan recently, would have been something to reduce at a key moment like now. The Splinterlands DAO proposal was updated and it is still just under 2M Hive below the funding requirement. The update mentioned something about holding 1M Hive for 2 years, so there is some negotiation going on in the background.
The final results of my chaos legion soulbound cards was an extra 6% on rare draws and +1% on epics. I was really trying to get all the summoners to max level and got most of them. I think they could come in quite handy in the game, combined with glad cards.
This season I maxed out Astral Entity to give me more summoner options in the game. I had her at level 3 for some time and then decided to sell her to then get the max level one. This was causing me to lose a few games and comes in handy quite often.
At just a cost of 36k DEC, it wasn't so cheap, but is nevertheless a good addition to have in your arsenal.
At 6 mana cost, it is also not so cheap to play and you need some mid to large mana cap battles to make it worth it, but it sure makes the death deck more fun. Now I have my eyes on some dragon upgrades, but these key cards are very meta and not so cheap to buy.
This season I also opened 22 glad packs and was happy to see another Quora among them. I am still trying to level her up and it is taking some time.
I also pulled a gold Katrelba Gobson which is always nice. She is one of my favorite glad cards and I love to play here whenever I get the chance!! haha
Otherwise, sadly no legendaries this time, they are always good to pull.
As you can see, I still have a long way to go to collect all the glad cards.
How was your season?
That's all for this update, thanks for reading.
