Yesterday while tending to my land plots I could barely believe my eyes. I had just discovered a Legendary Totem Fragment.
Just a few weeks ago @blewitt who is my guild leader as well as my king in Lonshire(119) was lucky enough to get a Legendary Totem Fragment. But he owns over 100 plots of land. I never thought that with my five plots I would ever be lucky enough to get a Legendary Totem Fragment.
The cheapest one on the market is currently about $119.
What are Totem Fragments you ask?
From the Splinterlands Help Section documentation: “Totem fragments are long-lost pieces of totems dispersed across Praetoria. When combined, totem fragments will eventually form full totems. “
They are found during the harvest stage on land plots.
What are Totems you ask?
“Totems are tokens that provide production boosts when placed on land.”
Production Boosts
Boosts are valuable in Praetoria because all your cards require grain based on Production Points per hour. However the base production excludes production boosts such as those from Totems. The production boost for totems varies depending on the rarity. A common totem for example gives a 10% boost. A legendary totem gives a 100% boost.
Distribution
Initially, Totems were only available as prizes in a land raffle. The raffle gave out a total of 31,200 Totems as prizes - 25,000 Common, 5,000 Rare, 1,000 Epic and 200 Legendary. Now totem fragments can be combined to add to the population of totems. I’m guessing that there are still only a little over 200 Legendary Totems in existence.
Odds and Combining
The image below is from the Splinterlands documentation. You can see that the chances of finding a totem are .0007% per 1000 PP. You can also see the odds of a Totem fragment being a particular rarity. The chances of a Totem fragment being Legendary is only 1%. The image also show the number of fragments required to combine them into a full totem. For a Legendary this is four.
Final Thoughts
I purchased one Common totem from Hive-Engine a long time ago. So I need four more to give all my plots a boost.
Now I am glad that I chose to harvest my land plots manually rather than having XBOT do it for me. Because then I would not have gotten the same thrill as I did and would not have gotten a screenshot to show off my beautiful Legendary.
