Splinterlands | Reverse Speed | Hare and the Tortoise

Splinterlands | Slowverse

The reverse speed rule is one of the rules that could catch us by surprise. The problem with the rule is that we are accustomed to looking for faster, stronger, and higher-health monsters for the battle, and this is where the rule interrupts our thought pattern.

RS1_Intro.jpg

This was even more troublesome during the early days of battle because most high-powered monsters would also be faster. I guess it was a coincidence, but it meant we would overlook the rule in play. And, if our opponent had picked up the rule well, no matter our monsters' strength, the opponent could win.

How about seeing the rule in battle? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Reverse Speed | Reverse Flash

When we get the reverse speed rule right, it is quite fun to watch. Earlier, most of the slower monsters would also be the weaker attackers. Or even if the monsters had good stats being slower wouldn’t help; meaning, by the time the monster got to attack, the opponent’s faster monsters would have caused much of the damage.

This is what changes in the reverse speed rule. In a way, the underdogs become the champions. There are many ways we can play the rule. We can choose to keep more slower monsters and one or two faster ones. Or we can choose all the slower ones.

During the rule, I like to take all monsters with the lowest speed. What this does is that it ensures that my monsters keep on attacking one after the other. This would lead to the decimation of the opponent’s monsters even before they start attacking. Sometimes, all monsters with the lowest speed are way more destructive than stronger monsters with higher speed.

All this will be well understood if we see the battle. Let’s get on to our battle.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.

RS1_Rule.jpg

The battle was with a 19-mana cap and the reverse speed was in play. Interestingly, all the splinters were available for battle. The only challenge was the lower mana cap, so I wasn’t sure I could take a few of my best monsters. Either way, now that it was the play, I had to play.

The Face-Off Screen

This is how the battlefield appeared.

RS1_B1.jpg

The opponent’s team is at the top of the screen while mine is at the bottom. I went with the Earth Splinter while the opponent chose Death Splinter. The opponent’s summoner reduced my monsters’ health by one, but the good part was that my summoner increased the magic attack value of all my monsters by one. Needless to say, I got more magic monsters in the lineup.

Let’s see how I fared.

We Battle Hard

By the exact end of round 1, the opponent’s monsters were in trouble.

RS1_B2.jpg

The decimation of the opponent’s monsters is visible by just the end of round 1. The advantage I got because of slower monsters and the fact that my magic monsters have a higher attack value helped. The opponent does not seem to have much battle power now.

Looks like I will win. But let’s be sure.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

And it did so pretty fast.

By the beginning of round 3, it was all over. The last of the opponent’s monsters was taken down by my tank. I won! 😊

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

I think the opponent’s choice of monsters and their speed worked in my favor. Because this was a low mana battle, I guess the opponent did not have appropriate monsters for the battle. It was interesting, nonetheless!

I loved the battle. How about you? I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle too. You can also look at it live in the link provided below. Have fun! 😊

Namaste!
