Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!
This week I'm going to show you how to play when faced Target Practice ruleset. What to look for, what are benefits of this ruleset, how to counter it, what cards go well with it and finally a showcase battle featuring this ruleset.
First of all lets see what this ruleset is all about. How to counter it or how to take advantage of it.
When a monster has the Snipe
ability is means that it will target enemy Monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position. Melee monsters are not affected with Snipe
.
Main thing to do when faced with this ruleset is to try to have a no attack, Magic or Ranged monster in second position with Shield
, Void
, Magic Reflect
or Return Fire
ability, depending on what type of attack you're expecting from the opponent. This way all those Monsters with Snipe
will target this Monster and their damage will get mitigated.
You could also consider using Monsters with Phase
when facing Magic attack Monsters to have a chance to evade the attacks. Same thing applies when facing Ranged attack Monsters - try to use Flying
and Dodge
abilities.
Another popular tactic lately (I use it very often too) is to put a Monster with Martyr
ability in second position, so that opponent's Monsters with Sniper
would attack and kill it, with that buffing your tank and monster behind it.
You can always use the Monster with Taunt
ability to force opponent's Monsters to attack it.
And finally, Triage
is very useful in this ruleset, because it will heal the Monster getting hit.
Now let's get into the battle featuring Target Practice ruleset. I wanted to show you a battle with my most commonly used tactic - Blast
damage. You can either use as many Monsters with Blast
as you can get, or simply use Yodin Zaku summoner and blast away.
Why Blast
you might ask? Because with Snipe
ability your Monsters will target a Ranged or Magic Monster that is somewhere behind the tank, thus making most damage as Blast
will hit the adjacent Monsters, potentially doing damage to 3 Monsters at once.

Ruleset in this battle was just perfect for a nice showcase of advantage the right choice of summoner brings to the table it had Back to Basics ruleset in addition to Target Practice.
I will try to explain each part of the ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.
Using Blast
damage in Target Practice ruleset can be very deadly, as I already said. The fact we had Back to Basics on top of it, I didn't have to worry about Sneak
or Opportunity
attacks. This made my choice of summoner Yodin Zaku even easier.
My only fear was that my opponent would chose a summoners with Return Fire
, like Lir Deepswimmer. But, fortunately, he was expecting I would go with Magic attack, so he chose Immortalis summoner, who gives his whole team Void
ability. This made him vulnerable to Ranged attack so my team had quite easy task.
You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.
Fire splinter Legendary summoner that costs 7 mana. He buffs the team with
Blast ability and adds Health and Ranged attack.
+1 Ranged attack to friendly Monsters. +1 Health to friendly Monsters. Blast - Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. I chose this summoner because of all the reasons I already mentioned - additional damage. |
Fire splinter Epic card. Costs 6 mana and has very high health with 2 Melee attack.
Void - Reduced damage from Magic attacks. Inspire - Gives all friendly Monsters +1 Melee attack. I picked this monster as a tank because I needed someone with high health to tank while the rest do the damage. His abilities didn't matter because of the ruleset. |
Fire splinter Legendary card. Costs 0 mana, has 1 Melee attack and 1 Heatlh.
This monster doesn't have any special abilities on the level I played it on. I picked this monster to receive damage in my opponent also uses Blast damage. |
Neutral splinter Epic card. Costs 5 mana, has 3 Ranged attack.
Scattershot - This monster's attacks hit a random enemy target. Piercing - If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health. I picked this monster because of its high speed and high Ranged damage. |
Fire splinter Common card. Costs 5 mana, and has 3 Ranged attack.
Scattershot - This monster's attacks hit a random enemy target. Cripple - Each time an enemy is hit by a Monster with Cripple it loses one max health. I picked this monster just like the one before it - because of its high speed and high Ranged damage. |
Fire splinter Rare card. Costs 4 mana and has 3 Ranged attack with 6 speed.
Flying - Has an increased chance (25%) of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability. Stun - When a Monster with Stun hits a target, it has a 50% chance to stun the target causing it to skip its next turn. I picked this monster just like the ones before it - because of its high speed and high Ranged damage. |
This was quite short battle in terms of rounds, but there was a lot happening during those 2 rounds.
Round 1
Because of the speed and damage output difference my opponent lost his main tank before he even had a chance to get his turn.
Round 2
After his Mycelic Slipspawn died my opponent was left with low health monsters that died pretty quickly due to all the blast damage going around.
You can watch the video of this battle on 3speak.tv.
This was a tournament battle in the first round against a player from a renowned guild, who plays in Champion league. So this was no easy task. Luckily I chose the perfect strategy and won easily.
Can't say the same for the rest of my battles that tournament, as I didn't advance to second round. 😄
As I already mentioned at the start of this post, there a a couple of different approaches to Target Practice ruleset. I already showed the strategy with Blast
damage, so if you are interested you can watch some of my battles where I used some of the previously mentioned strategies.
This was a battle where I used a Ranged monster with Shield
ability to soak up Ranged attacks as there was no Magic attack due to Lost Magic ruleset.
This was a battle where I used a monster with Magic Reflect
ability to reflect damage back to Magic attackers.
Or, most popular strategy with Target Practice - a Monster with Martyr
between 2 Melee attack monsters
