My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! Reverse Speed

in #hive-13323last month

Hello there, this is my entry to the latest "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or learn more about the challenge, click here. This week we must formulate a strategy with the Reverse Speed ruleset.

RULESET: Reverse Speed

With the Reverse Speed ruleset in action, units with lower speed will attack before units with higher speed. This is unlike in the normal matches where the reverse happens.

Reverse Speed is a simple ruleset to understand and even though it may look like it doesn't make much difference but speed is a very important factor during the battle. It determines who will attack first and if the attack has a chance to miss. In this ruleset, the lower the speed of a unit, the better it is. So, choosing units with the lowest speed is the best strategy and also not using units with abilities like Slow is good. Otherwise, that will be a disadvantage for you. So, try to avoid that as much as you can.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Obsidian
Position 1
Terraceous Grunt
Position 2
MYcelic Slipspawn
Position 3
Queen Mycelic
Position 4
Goblin Psychic
Position 5
Doctor Blight
Position 6
Spirit Hoarder

It was just a 36-mana cap battle and only had the 'Reverse Speed' ruleset that we have already discussed.

Only the Earth element was active during this battle which made it a tougher battle for both of us. It restricted us in a lot of ways. I went with Obsidian as my summoner. I wanted to go for a magic attack damage strategy on this one as it would also make my attackers not miss the targets even if I have higher speed units.

I used the Terraceous Grunt as my tank in the first position. Even though it doesn't have any shields it has a lot of health and low speed and that's exactly what I was looking for. On top of lower speed, it had the Dodge ability which makes it evade more attacks from melee and ranged attacks.

Next in my lineup was Mycelic Slipspawn. It has the 'taunt' ability which makes all the opponent's units target this unit first. It relieves some pressure from the first unit in my lineup and makes it live even longer. It deals high magic attack damage and has good health. It would be great if it had lower speed for just this battle but this was still not bad with its stats.

Queen Mycelia was an important part of my lineup as it comes with 'Protect' ability which grants all the friendly units +2 armour. This is really a game-changer, especially against melee and ranged attackers. You will see later that my opponent used a lot of ranged and melee attackers.

I used Goblin Psychic as my healer. It comes with 6 mana and deals a good amount of magic damage. It also has affliction ability which sometimes helps a lot. But the main reason I used this is for its attack and tank heal ability.

*Doctor Blight8 and Spirit Hoarder were my last units in the lineup. Both of them had the lowest speed which is helpful in the battle and they dealt magic attack damage.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

My strategy in the 'Reverse Speed' ruleset is mostly using lower speed units as much as I can. Even though it was a very restrictive battle and there was just one element active, I think I still managed to place a lot of lower-speed units in my lineup.

Also, using magic attackers is my preference as they always hit their target and make the speed stat of my opponents almost useless.

I used a couple of stronger units at the front of the lineup. Supported them with a healer and gave them extra armour so they would last even longer. I had enough magic attack damage on my side and if I managed to last them longer it would be an easy win. That's how I strategized when choosing my units in this battle.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win at the end.

My opponent went with an interesting strategy. I think to use a lower speed unit they didn't use good cards. The choice of using mostly melee and ranged attackers when speed played an important factor was not the best decision in my opinion.

Both teams stood strong in the first round and moved on to the second round without much damage.

But it all came down crashing in rounds 2 and 3 as my opponent experienced a mini-collapse at the front of the lineup. And once those units were gone there was not enough protection or firepower at the end to sustain in this battle.

My Goblin Psychic played the good role of a healer and didn't let anyone die during this battle. A far greater role was played by the Queen Mycelic as her protection ability made my tanks at the front even more sturdier. My opponent had low-level cards as well.

Conclusion

Reverse Speed is an interesting ruleset. You have to keep in mind a few things. Using lower speed units, avoiding units with slow ability and if you can using magic attackers, all these are good suggestions that I can give. But in the end, it is about utilizing the best units at your disposal and making sure you focus on the fundamentals of the game. This ruleset is not as challenging as some of the others can be.

Let me know what's your strategies to deal with this ruleset.
