Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and read more about the challenge, click here.
The Rebellion edition is the latest edition of cards in Splinterlands and there are a lot of new summoners and monsters which came out with this one. Each week I focus on different monsters and talk about them in detail with strategies that best fit them. This week, we have a Common Earth unit, Ujurak Mystic, a decent mage attacker with good overall stats. How often do you see two or more armour on mages?
Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.
Ujurak Mystic
Ujurak Mystic is a Common Earth unit that came out during the recent Rebellion edition. It is a mid mana cost unit costing just 4 mana to use but it comes with some impressive stats. It deals magic attack damage and decent speed. But it is more of a defensive unit as it comes with 2 extra armour even at level 1 and it has the 'Lookout' ability which gives its adjacent units one less damage from attackers with sneak, snipe and opportunity ability. Also, the ambush gives half the damage if this unit is in our lineup.
Let me show you how it performs using a battle as an example.
My Lineup
This is my lineup for the battle
It was a 38-mana cap battle with the "Rise of the Commons" ruleset which allows only the common and rare monsters to be used in this battle.
All elements except Life were active during this battle. I went with Helios Matriarch as my summoner which allowed me to use a gladiator unit in this battle.
My tank in this battle was Palidon Rakk, it is an impressive unit dealing 3 melee attack damage and having an incredible amount of health. It is a gladiator card for which I used my bloodlust ability so every time it defeats monsters its stats get increased by 1. All this cost only 7 mana.
Next in my lineup was Mycelic Slipspawn. It was a mage that had a lot of health and an interesting ability, taunt, which made all the units attack this unit first. Not only that, but it also had the 'forcefield' ability. So, it takes a lot of time to eliminate this unit.
Regal Peryton was placed in the third position, which costs 5 mana and deals magic attack damage with incredible speed. It's a 'flying' ability for him it dodges more attacks. So, it was a no-brainer for me to choose in this battle.
The next one was Goblin Psychic, a healer that supports my tank as it comes with a 'tank heal' ability. It costs only 6 mana and deals 2 magic attack damage.
Ujurak Mystic was the next unit in my lineup. It only costs 4 mana and comes with 2 shield armour of its own. Its 'lookout' ability is impressive and gives extra protection to its adjacent units from monsters with sneak, snipe and opportunity abilities.
Last but not least was Mycelic Morphoid. It just costs 1 mana and I used it at the back just to shield my back line and make it more sturdier. I didn't expect it to last much longer too.
Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.
I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.
My Strategy
My strategy for this battle was a simple one. I wanted to use a couple of beefy units at the front of the lineup that can take the majority of beating and stay alive for much longer while the magic attackers from the back can just eliminate all the opponent's units.
My focus was more on using magic attackers and that's why I used most of them in my lineup. I also wanted to use a good tank with lots of health and for that, I used the gladiator unit, Palidon Rank.
Also, supporting the tanks with the heal was part of my strategy and using Ujurak Mystic to strengthen my back line was part of the defensive strategy too.
This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win in the end.
My opponent went with an interesting strategy too, they also went with the same summoner and used Katrelba Gobson which if gets going can change the fate of the battle single-handedly on its own. They also used the Goblin Psychic to support their tank but their tank was much weaker than mine and didn't last long.
Somewhere in the middle of round 1, their Venari Knifer got eliminated as it had much lower health than my tanks.
The demise of their tank just exposed their weaker mid-line which consisted of units with relatively lower health and naturally, they didn't last longer.
Their most trusted unit, Katrelba Gobson tried to deal some damage but it was too little too late. It was defeated just before the end of round 2.
As their last hope was gone, all of my units were still breathing fire and took out the remaining two units with ease. I registered an easy win at the end.
Conclusion
Ujurak Mystic plays a crucial role in your lineup, not only does it increase the attacking strength of your lineup by dealing magic attack damage, but it also adds massively to the defensive strength as it comes with two armour of its own and a 'lookout' ability that gives extra protection to the adjacent units. This ability is effective against units with sneak, snipe and opportunity abilities so it can make the back line even sturdier and not allow the opponent to snipe off monsters from the back line easily.
Costing just 4 mana is not a high cost too, especially keeping its stats and ability in mind. It works well in medium to high-range mana cap battles. I recommend it. Let me know if you find it useful as well.
