Note: All battles were played manually and without the use of any Battle Helper
Introduction
Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
I have been playing Splinterlands since 2021, playing 18k of manual battles across different leagues and within a few months, I will finally reach my 3rd year within the game so I could say that I am quite knowledgeable about the game. Within the past years, I have seen how the game have slowly evolved and how much different the game is from when I came in. That is why for my next entry for the Community Engagement Challenge, I want to make a 2024 beginner's guide for Splinterlands to teach future players how to become a battle mage. So if you are new to the game, this can help to start your Splinterlands journey.
Getting Started
- Obtaining Summoner's Spellbook
Splinterlands is a Web3 Auto-battler card game which someone can star playing for free but in order to have an access to the Play2earn features of the game they must first obtain a Summoner's Spellbook which would cost 10$ worth of fiat or crypto and by having it, you will be able to customize your in-game name which will also serves as your "Hive Address" but be careful because changing your in- game name is only a one time thing and can never be reverted. At the same time, new players will also have 3000 credits that is equivalent to $3 and ca be used in order to "rent" or "buy" cards in the market as well as be delegated with 100 SPS staked from the @sps.dao and would last for 30 days.
- Obtaining Cards To Play
After getting your hands on a Spellbook, the next thing that a beginner needs to have are cards to play cause even though the game allows you to play with starter cards on Modern league, earning rewards can only be possible by using NFT assets which can be bought through packs or individually in the market but if you have no idea what of what cards to buy, you can first try to rent cards to train using them and the game also provides Set Rentals that can be rented within a few clicks.
Alternatively, there are also some 3rd party sites that provides the same features and my favorite among them was using @peakmonsters that allows players to customize the deck they want to use or use a prebuild deck that a player has made.
You can also try to use Monstermarket which provides a cashback from card purchase.
- Getting Staked SPS
The free staked SPS delegation from @sps.dao was more than enough to play up to bronze 2 rating but going above that rating, a player will need to have more SPS to maximize their earnings which they can buy through Hive Engine but they also have the option to rent sps through SPS Bidding which last for 7 days
On the other and, If you have no Idea how much SPS you need for the league that you are playing, you can use this Ranked Rewards Calculator by Splintercards.
And now, you have everything that you need to play Splinterlands and start your play2earn journey to become the next battle mage. So all you need to do now is to press the battle button and win your battle until you reached Bronze 3 where you start earning SPS from battles.
Ranked Battle Tips
- Ranked Battle
If you are a new player, the simplest way to start earning to the game was by playing ranked battle which is divided into two formats- "Modern" and "Wild". On Modern, you can only use cards from the 2 most recent sets, which in this case was Chaos Legion and Rebellion. Playing on Modern also earns you higher SPS reward but the one thing that you need to remember is that using bot or battle helper is against TOS. On the other hand, Wild allows you to bot and use battle helper and allows a player to use all cards but to play, you will need to pay 2000 DEC for a season pass. Wild also requires bigger sps staked compared to modern to get the same multiplier but playing on wild lets you to earn the most amount of Glint.
Ranked battle also comes with different leagues, determined by your current rating and the higher the rating means that the higher the SPS requirements but this also lets you to earn more rewards. That said, most recent change removes the league caps on cards which means that a player can use any player of cards regardless of their league.
- Into the Arena Combat
After matchmaking finds you an opponent, It also shows you the given elements, mana cap and ruleset, which are game modifiers that could vary from battle to battle. Given this condition shown to you allows for you to build what you think was the most optimal lineup and it is best that you used up all the available monster slot and mana cap when building your lineup.
At the same time, some of the recent summoners from the Rebellion set can use Dual Element that allows them to use units from 2 different elements as well as has this ability called summoner tactics that allows you to choose a monster to give an ability while also having a clear picture of the combat arena to give you a better chance on defeating your opponent.
- Winning A Ranked Battle
By winning a battle, a player will be able to earn SPS as well as Glint. There various factors that could affect the amount of SPS and Glint that a player can earn by winning the battle, such as the amount of SPS Staked, Rating and the players Win streak. There are also various ways to increase your earnings such as by adding alpha, beta, gold foil and promo cards on your lineup as well as by joining a guild. The SPS that you earned will be on the SPS Dashboard and by claiming them, it will automatically be staked in your account. Unstaking your SPS will take 4 weeks to be completed with each week giving you 25% of the amount you unstake.
On the other hand, the Glint that you earned can be used to buy items on Gwen's Glintshop where you can choose between Rarity Draws, Loot Chest, Exclusives and Resources. If you are aiming for cards, the best choice would be to buy among the Rarity Draws but if you want to gamble for packs and titles, you might as well choose between the different Loot Chest which also gives you more energy and cards.
Closing
This concludes my Splinterlands beginners guide. If there will be a continuation for this post, I will be following it up with Guild brawls and Tournaments that will help to further maximize your earnings. But for the mean time, try to experiment with different splinters and combos, learn from your experiences, and have fun exploring the world of Splinterlands. If you have some questions, feel free to drop some comments and I will answer them as fast as I can.
That was it for this post. Thank you and see you at the next one.
