Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Supposed to be, this post was meant to be the last part of my review for the Rebellion legendary soulbound rewards but I decided to set that aside for the next week. This is because Splinterlands goes into Halloween mode, adding some skins on cards and chest as well as they goes heavy with adding 5 new rulesets in the game, further enriching the gameplay. There are also some great new from the recent Townhall which makes me excited for the game so I will briefly talk about some of those in this post.
Praetoria Goes Halloween Mode
Just after the October 16th maintenance, Splinterlands has made various changes in to some of the games skins, turning it into Halloween themed. We can immediately see this changes as soon as we go to the game's battle page where we will saw new banners for modern and wild. Not only that, we also get to see how Gwen's Glint Shop also joins to the occasion by turning our loot chest into pumpkin chest.
But most of all, what we got were new skins to some of Chaos Legion Cards which we may be able to have a permanent copy once *Glamour system was added to the game where eventually, we may be able to customize our cards appearance as well as add other benefits whether it was a new ability or Glint boost.
New Rulesets
Aside from the Halloween changes, Splinterlands also added gameplay changes by adding not just one but 5 new rulesets into the game, increasing the depth of the game. This rulesets were.
Heavy Metal - You can only summon armored units.
Might Makes Right - You can only summon units with 3 or more ranged, magic, or melee power.
Need for Speed - You can only summon units with 3 or more speed.
Deflection Field - All units have the Reflection Shield ability.
Beefcakes - You can only summon units with 5 or more health.
This were some interesting abilities to have that changes how strategies should be made which has nerfed the use case of some OP cards with the summoner Eternal Tofu with the Deflection Field ruleset disabling its Thorns and Corrosive Ward ability that makes it quite a difficult card to counter. Venka the Vile also got less use case now as it could not be played on Heavy Metal due to its lack of armor while Mantaroth cannot be played on Need for Speed as it only has 2 speed. On the other hand, Grimbardun Smith cannot be used on Might Makes Right ruleset as it needs to at least have 3 damage while Doctor Blight which is still spammable specially on Little League won't be able to be used when Beefcakes were an active ruleset. I guess this is one of the ways how the developers brings some balance to the game without changing the stats of the cards.
Some Townhall Updates
- Marketing
With the recent townhall Yabapmatt has introduced Blaze to be the lead marketing for Splinterlands responsible for onboarding new players as well as another part time which if I'm not mistaken was a former member of Illuvium. Blaze got to introduced himself and have answer some of the questions though he did not say any specific goals or specify any detailed plans how to onboard new players.
As part of the marketing they would also bring back the mobile app to make the game more accessible. This for me was a great news so that I can always play on the go but the team should be really careful how they do this since they will be using the funds that they get from the DHF proposal which has already lose a significant amount due to it being below the return proposal.
- Hall of Legends Auction Card
On this townhall, they have also revealed the Hall of Legends Auction Card Helois the Hollow which is a 9- mana Earth and Death Splinter with a melee attack of 8, speed of 3 and health of 7. Aside from that, it also comes with Taunt ability that forces the opponent to target this card and Opportunity that allows it to target the opponent with the least health as well as 2 new abilities which are:
Spite: When defeated, 100% chance to counterattack on all types of attack.
Soul Siphon: As long as there is a non-Weary allied unit, self-resurrects with 50% of max health. Inflicts Weary on the non-Weary allied unit with the highest health and reduces their health by 50%.
This new abilities were incredibly powerful card and @infidel1258 has dive deep on the possibilities of this card on this video while also incredibly rare given that there will only ever be 100 max copies of this card that will be printed, making it more rare compare to Alpha legendary cards.
- Hard Mode
For this, not many details has been said but what they hope with this new mode is to provide value for older cards including extra copy of cards which is quite important specially now that a proposal for the next core set that will replace Chaos Legion is already rolling. I do not know how much time the development of this would take it can be an interesting alternative for players that do not want their extra cards to stay idle on land.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I was really glad with the new additions to the game with the skins and new rulesets. I was also quite satisfied with the updates that Splinterlands revealed in the townhall and has give me more confidence that the game will be able to overcome the challenges on the road.
Thank you and see you at the next post.
