Note: This is a fan-made lore based on a Splinterlands character.
Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Chaos Legion was one of the card sets that is currently playable on modern and this was also the set that has the most number of cards. In terms of lore, this set also was the most rich lore-wise which allows us to further understand and have a sense of attachment on the cards that we play.
And so for this weeks Community Engagement Challenge, I want to expand the lore of Obsidian which is an Earth element summoner that gives +1 damage to magic attacks.

The Tragedy of Stonebluff Village
Stonebluff, that was the name of the village that was once the home of Earth Mages, mages that has the mastery of manipulating Earth element which comprise of any combination dirt, stone, minerals, gems, metals, wood, or foliage through the use of magic. But now, the village was all buried in rubble after the whole village was swallowed by a massive avalanche of rocks along with all the Earth Mages that lives in it on what will be known as the "Tragedy of Stonebluff Village" with the only surviving Earth Mage was also the one that caused the tragedy.
Made Using Adobe Firefly.
What drove her to commit such acts that resulted for the erasure of the Stonebluff village in the maps of Praetoria was her desire to break free from the unjustified command of the village elders for her to stay to the village to teach the new generation of Earth Mages and never has the opportunity to see the outside world. What's more is that while she remains stuck in the village, the rest of his peers not only has seen the outside world, but also has the chance to compete against other Elemental Mages in the contest of champions, showing their abilities to the world.
"This is so unfair! Why should I remain in the village to teach when I am definitely more skilled in using Earth magic than anyone in the village?"
Every time that she hear about the achievements of his fellow Earth Mage, rather than being happy, her jealousy and resentment towards them and the rest of the village only grew more and more and eventually she decided to plot a revenge against the village.
Made Using Adobe Firefly.
For a while, she pretended to accept the decision of the elders and do the task of teaching the new generation of Earth Mage wholeheartedly. It was very strict and thorough that those students that were not able to follow her teachings will be punished to hold Obsidian stone in their head using magic until it fell either due the Mage loses his focus or loses his mana. It may seem to be a harsh punishment but for her students, this is their teachers way to help the students reach their full potential and as a result, rather than fear or anger, the students deeply respects her. Another reason for the students trust is their teachers discovery on harnessing the power of Obsidian to enhance the power of others.
Among her students, there is this one student that despite having huge amount of mana, doesn't have the affinity on using magic and became the bullied by his classmates resulting for him to grew jealous to them. The teacher saw him and realizes that she can use him as a tool that she can use to take her revenge. Out of the whole class wildest belief, the teacher suddenly takes their talentless classmate as her apprentice but rather how to become a mage, she rather continues to feed the resentment that the student has towards everyone in the village and convince him to help her leave the village.
"My dear apprentice, I want to leave the village and see the outside world but the elder keep me jailed here despite all my plea. Will you help me to leave?" The teacher asked.
"Sure my Master, it was only you that has supported me and taken me as an apprentice despite my inability to become a mage. But what I can do to help you?" The student replied.
"The only way that we could leave this village is to destroy it along with all the rest of the Earth Mage and to do that I will need your powers which I will amplify using the power off the Obsidian to cause a massive rock avalanche"
After that, the two have begin their plans. The rest of the students and other Earth Mage has tried to stop the avalanche but their combined powers failed to do so which resulted to the rocks engulfing the entire village.
In the rubble, there were two people that stands, the apprentice and the teacher that held her head high after extracting her revenge. The two eventually left the village and switch from town to town until the day that Chaos Legion arrives to Praetoria where they finally offer their allegiance. The last earth mage whose name was never known was soon to be called as "Obsidian" for her ability to harness the power of the Obsidian rock to increase the abilities of others and has become the advisor of Sillus that uses cruelty to gain information.
Closing
And that was it for the origins of Obsidian and the story of how was she becomes the last remaining Earth Mage. Technically, there are two survivors from the city but it was only her that can use Earth magic. I hope that you find this story entertaining and learn some good lesson with it.
Thank you and see you on the next post!
