Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Rebellion was the 5th major set that was introduced into Splinterlands and just like the previous sets, it has introduced a new batch of abilities to the game, expanding the variety of strategies and card synergies that we can use to win our battle. That is why it is important for us to familiarize with how this new abilities work.

And so, last week, I did started my in depth review on the Rebellion abilities, beginning with the Ambush ability and for this week's post, I will take a look on the Armored Strike Ability.

What is Armored Strike Ability?

armored strike.png

Armored Strike is an ability that grants monsters to have an additional attack using their armor stats. Any attack using Armored Strike is considered a a melee attack and can only be used in battle as long as the monster has an armor. The damage that armored strike can inflict was also dependent to the number of their armor so each time the card loses an armor, the damage it inflicts were also reduced.

Prons

  • Gains an additional attack using the card's armor stat.

  • Notable Interactions with other abilities.

    • Armor that has been granted by the Protect ability will add to the damage of Armored Strike.

    • Halving does not impact armor or armored strike.

    • Trample can trigger on Armored Strike.

Cons

  • Since Armored Strike is a melee attack, it will received damage from Thorns ability regardless of the monster's original attack type

  • Armored Strike can trigger Retaliate.

  • Damage from Armored Strike is susceptible to Forcefield, meaning if it has 5 or more damage, it will only inflict 1 damage to the target.

  • The ability can not be used once the card loses all of it's armor.

  • The ability does not work during Unprotected ruleset.

Cards with Ambush Ability

Common

Rare

Legendary

As of the moment, there were a total of 7 cards with the Armored Strike ability, 2 of which are common, 1 of which is rare and 3 of which are legendary. Aside from that, there is also 1 Rebellion summoner that has the ability to to give the Armored Strike ability on 1 unit during the tactics round. What's interesting though is how this ability can benefit units with huge armor the most and it does not matter whether they are melee units or not and this will even allow non- melee units to gain a melee attack even on rulesets where melee units cannot be used.

Battle Showcase:

Battle 1: Wailing Wraith and Mantaroth

Due to Armored Strike, Mantaroth was able use it's armor to attack Cursed Windeku with a total of 8 damage, double of what it's original attack is. It has also got it's armor substantially buffed with the help of the Armored Up ruleset and the Protect ability from Ravenhood Warden. But since Armored Strike is a melee attack, Mantaroth loses an armor when it attack Cursed Windeku since it has Thorns.

Moving on, we have Wailing Wraith which has inflicted 6 damage to Shadow Snitch from it' Armored Strike ability which ends on its defeat. You can also see on this image that Mantaroth has lost 2 armor due to the damage it receives from Thorns.

Battle 2: Nimbledook Explorer and Zebajin

Meanwhile, in this battle, the cards with Armored Strike were not originally melee units so the attack order also applies. Due to this reason, Zebajin first attacks with magic then it was followed by the Armored Strike since it was considered as melee attack.

The same thing with Nimbledook Explorer that although it was originally a non-damage unit, it gains magic and range attack with the help of Weapon's training and with the Help of Armored Strike, it also gains the ability to use melee attack. The attack order in this battle goes with Magic first, followed by range and ended with the 8 damage from Armored Strike.

Battle 3: Skyspire Yak, Bera Dallin and Elias Max Pruitt

Using Elias Max Pruitt, I give the Armored Strike and Piercing ability to Commander Slade during the tactics phase and along with the additional armor given by the summoner, Armored Up ruleset and the Protect from Venari Wavesmith, Commander Slade has gained a total of 12 armor.

image.png

And when it attacks the opponent, it was fully able to inflict all the 12 damage due to the fact that it has the Piercing ability so the excess damage from the opponents armor was able to damage the opponent's health.

image.png

The same goes for Bera Dallin that attacks Coeurl Lurker with 12 damage but since it does not have the Piercing, it's attack was only able to remove its armor and at the same time, receive armor damage due to Thorns.

image.png

Does not matter though since Skyspire Yak was still able to use it's Armored Strike to inflict a total of 7 damage and as a result, defeated Coeurl Lurker.

Closing

Just like the Ambush ability, Armored Strike also is an interesting addition to the new abilities that comes with Rebellion. It allows you to get an additional attack for your units using their armor stats and as long as include cards with protect and cards to Repair their armor, Armored Strike was can inflict a ridiculous amount of damage.

Thank you and see you at the next post.

Nice the -12 damage with armor strike is huge 🤣

That was indeed huge unless there is Forcefield that cuts the damage to 1 🤣.
