Introduction
A New Era is here in Splinterlands. Yes, I'm talking about the improvements to free to play. Splinterlands has had trouble onboarding the masses due to the spellbook pay wall for the longest time. That was until last Tuesday Nov 12, where that restriction has been removed. New people can come play the game without a spellbook now and earn glints at a 1x multiplier.
Thoughts On Making Free To Play Better Change
I have no doubt in my mind that this was the right move. There can still be improvements such as social login with gmail, facebook and discord. The mobile app is still supposed to return to playstore as well as apple store. I think that will be the time where we can reach a new peak of players. I believe there is a marketing plan being made and I assume it will push out together with mobile. This will be the last shot to see if people will give the game a shot. I genuinely think Splinterlands is a fun creative strategic card game as someone that loves TCGs.
Experiencing It For Myself
I made a new account to test the free to play changes. Overall, I had a pleasant experience. The games were pretty easy to win since they were against bots so I don't think new players would be too frustrated. It took 8 wins in a row to reach Bronze 3 which allowed me to get three chests for the promotion rewards. These promotion rewards are super good for free to play and since new players can't get jackpot without a spellbook it won't really affect the in game economy since the rewards are all soulbound and don't really have a way to convert to monetary value unless they sell the account or something. I wanted to reach bronze and play one game to see how many glints I would get with a 1x multiplier. I got 34 and I assume that would go higher as the rating goes higher. I think it's not too bad as a new player can start opening the lowest 200 glint chests after about 7 wins.
Thank You
Thank you for reading and supporting me. What's your thoughts on the change of making it easier for new players to get into the game and have access to more of Splinterlands without a spellbook? I honestly feel I can genuinely introduce this game for people to enjoy once mobile is out. I hope Splinterlands can keep it up!
