Introduction
It's Monday and as usual I will write about the battle mage secrets. I think I missed the one last week because I couldn't get a battle with the featured ruleset. The theme for this week is reverse speed which changes the attack order with slowest units going first. This also reverses the order for tiebreakers as well so if you have same speed and one unit is magic and one is melee, the melee one would attack first. This ruleset gives a better chance for units with low speed to be used as there's not many that are used in the game since speed is king in almost every ruleset except for this one.
My Strategy & Tips for Reverse Speed
In reverse speed, it's all about choosing units with the lowest speed. Personally, I like to go for the earth element because it has great units with low speed like mycelic infantry and goblin tower. For a neutral unit, runi is tied for the best choice with dr blight along with magi of chaos, legionnaire alvar and disintegrator as some possible choices depending on the ruleset. My alternative would be the fire element with tusk as the core tank.
I try to avoid using units or summoners that buff increase speed or decrease speed but if I had no choice I would rather choose to decrease speed since there's a chance the opponent would go with 1 speed units and that decrease speed wouldn't really do anything.
The Battle
The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my scholar account and it was pretty recent. It was in modern diamond. I have been trouble getting to champ these past seasons. It was a 29 mana battle with all elements available. The rulesets were explosive weaponry and reverse speed.
Discussing My Lineup
Summoner , Tarsa - I know I mentioned earth element but that's only great for a bit higher mana battles. For low mana battles, I find Tarsa to be better with tusk, runi , dr blight as the core part of the team.
First Position, Tusk The Wide - Tusk is the core tank. He has an amazing speed of 1 with 15 hp and the void counters dr blight.
Second Position, Venator Kinjo - I chose Venator Kinjo for the blast shield. I know I said to try not to help the opponent by reducing speed but this blast shield was super crucial to delay the splash damage.
Third Position, Scorch Fiend - This card was fodder. It was to take any opportunity strike in between my two blast shields.
Fourth Position, Runi - Runi was my main melee DPS. It's usually the first to attack being a melee unit with one speed. It's crucial for the blast shield in this ruleset.
Fifth Position, Molten Ash Golem - This was not my ideal choice but it was the best unit to fit the mana cap. It's not a terrible card in this ruleset though with low speed and the demoralize.
Last Position, Dr Blight - Dr Blight is core in reverse speed. It's low mana and has great value.
Analysis of The Battle
I think I clutched the win. I'm lucky that the trample retaliate didn't run down my whole team. I think my opponent made a mistake trying to martyr his team in reverse speed. That was confusing for me because he played low speed units and then used martyr to buff them which increased their speed. I think that increased speed made him lose because my units were able to dodge the attacks.
