Unless you've been living under a rock, you may have noticed, there's a brand new ruleset in the game. This one makes for some very interesting fights. I'm talking of course about...
Born Again
All units receive the rebirth ability which allows allows them to self resurrect once
There are a number of ways you can approach this new ruleset, which is really what makes this a lot of fun/interesting.
When a monster that is resurrected returns with only 1 HP, but their armor is brought back in full. This makes monsters very susceptible to magic attacks. However if Weak Magic is in play, or you play a monster with Void Shield (or have a summoner with Void Shield like Rathe), the full armor needs to be eliminated first.
You can also look at playing one or more martyr monsters. When they die, they provide a boost to the Armor, Speed, and Attack of the monsters around them. Each time they're resurrected and killed again, your surrounding monsters get boosted more. One way to counteract that would be to play Dispel monsters, who will get rid of all positive boosts.
Another way to play this is with monsters that have or a summoner that can provide Divine Shield. The reason for this is because the Divine Shield is added back to a resurrected monster allowing for a second use of Divine Shield. This allows you time to heal up that monster with Triage.
What other ways do you like to play or seem like a solid way to approach the Born Again ruleset?
Let's get to the brawls...
Battle #1 - Win
Ruleset - Target Practice / Fire & Regret / Going the Distance
This was a very interesting Rule set to pick for as Going the Distance and Fire & Regret are contradictory rules. Normally, you wouldn't want to play Ranged when Fire & Regret shows up, but this time, it's the only thing you can use. I chose to go with Jacek as my Summoner for the +2 speed and piercing. My fire deck also has a couple of solid Ranged Monsters with Close Range to play up front in the tank position. Between Lava Launcher and Molten Ash Golem, I play Firecaller which is a great spot for Marty monsters in a Target Practice Ruleset as they should be the first one taken out, providing that much needed boost to both your tank and 3rd position monster. In spot number 4 I play Flamesmith to decimate any shield my opponent may come put up in my way. Following that is Ash Mirage with a all important Head Winds ability that reduces my opponents Ranged attack. Rounding things out is Tinderlock, who with Last Stand can hopefully finish things off should I lose everyone else in front of him. Things more or less go exactly according to play. The only thing I didn't like was Jacek's Scattershot made it a little more difficult to focus and eliminate my opponent more quickly. But this was all over in 3 Rounds.
Battle #2 - Win
Ruleset - Weak Magic / Aim True
To me, this looks like a bot played this round. My opponenent only plays 13 total mana cards in a total mana pool of 27. If bots play like this, I'm all for the free wins. In general though, I don't think bots should be playing in tournaments or brawls. Even when they play like this and lose every match, they're still a drain on the overall brawl prize pool for someone that is putting in zero effort in the game. It only takes 1 Round to finish this bot off.
Battle #3 - Win
Ruleset - Explosive Weaponry / Going the Distance / Are You Not Entertained
Hitting first and causing misses are some key strategies to handling Explosive Weaponry. I went with Jacek to boost my speed while my opponent went with Brighton Bloom to add flying and increase misses. The speed allows me to kill their Soul Strangler right away. I miss a couple of times but my opponent kills my Firecaller who boosts Lava Launcher and Molten Ash Golem thanks to Martyr. This boosts my speed of these too monsters even more and allows Lava Launcher to avoid a couple hits itself. This is all over in a quick 3 Rounds.
Battle #4 - Win
Ruleset - Oppoenent Fled
Battle #5 - Win
Ruleset - Opponent Fled
I'm grouping fights number 4 and 5 together because they're ultimately the exact same result. In both, neither one entered a team and lost by forfeit. I know things happen in life, but there really isn't many reasons to miss entering a brawl. You do yourself and your guild a disservice, especially when SPS earnings are involved.
Another clean sweep!! 5-0!!
Now to be fair, 3 of those wins were freebies, but I'm not gonna complain about that too much. Let's celebrate the accomplishments and ignore the details lol. Let's go Pizza!
