Prelude
Good day to all, how are all of you doing? Hope all of you are doing good. I am back again to do another battle sharing with the community on some special and memorable matches that I encounter as I play Splinterlands. Today's sharing will be a debut for a card that I see often being used by others but I couldn't use until being rewarded with chest when I level up my league from Silver 3 to Silver 2. And the card is none other than Halfling Refugee. I've seen it being used so often, but somehow my chest opening just somehow didn't had affinity with it till yesterday.
Before we dive into the match itself, let us take a look at Halfling Refugee:
Just by looking at the mana and the stats, by itself, it is already a very value for mana card. 1 mana with 2 attack, 3 speed and 6 health. Wow, that is sure great value. But such great value, isn't it a little overboard?
Not really because this card has the weary ability tagged to it. Weary is an ability that came with the Rebellion Soul Bound reward cards.
What exactly is weary? The card has a 10% chance of becoming exhausted and exhausted cards cannot attack or retaliate, so essentially becoming a sitting duck. And the tendency of becoming exhausted increases by 10% each turn till 80% at most. Sounds a little demoralizing isn't it? But is it worth the gamble? I would say why not? It is 1 mana and the stats look really amazing. So to me, there is definitely opportunity to take up this gamble. This card stat wise is way better than the fiends and most importantly, it is a neutral card which can be used in all splinters unless during rulesets when neutrals are forbidden. And I can safely say, this card can be the fiends of the odd mana ruleset and provide really good value.
This card when levelled up increases in way more value with both attack and health gaining as the level goes up at 5 attack and 8 health. Not only that, there is heal ability that will be unlocked at Level 3 which is really amazing.
So without further delay, let's get right into the match itself.

Ruleset: Odd Ones Out
Mana Limit: 19
Selection Analysis
Yes, Odd Ones Out which effectively knocks off all the even mana cards from being allowed to be selected.
And for me, I like to use Fire Splinter when it comes to odd mana matches as I somehow have quite a fair bit of decent choice of cards when it comes down to such matches.
For Odd Mana matches, no fiends allowed and with my new Halfling Refugee, I am calling upon it to be the fiend in this odd mana match to hold the first position while I planned an array of 3 attackers that need not stand in the front line. 2 sneak attackers, Tenyii Striker and Gobalano Solider being planned to smash things right from the back. Not only that Gobalano Solider even gets a strike at the start of the match before any hits due to ambush. Torch Vizier was placed in the middle to take out any low health cards that opponent has. Last but not least, to prevent back line sneaks from opponent I added a Radiated Scorcher to cushion the impact.
Opponent strategy seems rather clear. It is just a 3 card lineup that is spearheaded by Grum Flameblade. I generally do not like to face this card as it tend to grow huge as it fills then it become way hard to take it down. Grum had a Venari Marksrat following it which meant there is planned Martyr and upon triggering will again make Grum very hard to play against.
Two different strategies, mine is diversified across multiple cards while my opponent pinned his hope on Grum Flameblade. Which strategy will come out on top? Let's get right on to business on the battlefield!
Round by Round Synopsis
Round 1 - A super fast paced match were we saw how my lineup cleared off everything but Grum Flameblade in this round. Ambush with one more attack took out opponent's Radiant Scorcher. While A sneak attack cleared out Marksrat which boosted Grum Flameblade stats. Grum did a big strike on Halfling Refugee but didn't manage to kill it. This is great, imagine if it was a Fiend, the blood lust on Grum would have already started feasting for more.
Round 2 - All the attacks went onto Grum Flameblade and health on Grum was significantly taken down to a low figure. And amazingly Grum missed a hit onto Halfling refugee. No fatigue on it thus far after 2 rounds.
Round 3 - It's a wrap right from the start of the round. Halfling Refugee open the round with a big whack and takes out Grum Blade. Woohoo! Victory secured!
Battle Summary
While my opponent an enhanced Grum Flameblade at Level 2 and further being boosted by Martyr, the amount of attacks that went its way was too much for it to handle. And amazingly, Halfling Refugee stands up to the test, fending the frontal attack and coming up on top to land the fatal blow that win the match. Against a high level opponent and using a card that just debut, I am really glad to have this outcome.
Wrap Up
Higher rarity cards are hard to come by during draws, I was glad that lady luck shine on me and allow me to have a copy of Halfling Refugee. A truly amazing card that can hold itself up against the big boys. No wonder I heard from some of the discussion in forums, the epic cards are the soul of the Rebellion Soul Bound reward cards. Really good and fits in many lineups.
