Seacoast Museum Walk

Museums are definitely a staple in our house. We've been going to them for years, though we try to stay away from the ones in gigantic cities because those tend to be a little too chaotic. There are some in the big city near where we live that we've been to so that we could say we explored them, but we tend to favor the ones that are out a bit because they are frankly more fun and enjoyable!

This particular museum is dedicated to the ocean along the eastern coastline of the United States. I won't say exactly where it is, but the East Coast gives you a little bit of a sense :D

This ones nice because it's a good size, but it's also got a really big and beautiful park and beachfront area along it! The beach is quite rocky which is also nice because we get to explore all kinds of critters that are in the area, and the treasures that wash up on the shore.

Inside is a great time though, especially on days in which the weather is pretty crappy which it was the other day. It was rainy, not cold enough for snow and just crummy out so I knew that it would be a decent idea to take a drive over to the museum for a few hours walking in and around the different animals and exhibits.

This one is also fun and good for the kids as it gives them exposure to all kinds of stuff. A few years ago they introduced a fun little scavenger hunt which was great because it helped keep the little man interested in coming to the place so that he could find all the critters! This eel is one of the major ones, especially because he is mostly hiding in his rock on normal days! He was friendly today :D

I think one of the other things I like about them is they also highlight the pollution and ways it destroys the local environment and ecosystem. That's important because it impacts us in so many ways even if we don't realize it!

I've always been a big advocate of cleaning up the beach when we are there, to the chagrin of my wife. I pick up trash, as does my son, and we carry it with us to a bag in the car or to a trash barrel if there is one along the way. This helps reduce these types of things! The sculpture below was created with just trash that washed ashore along the rocky beach here which is wild and sad. Thankfully there are lots of people who also pick up the trash! I just hope throwing it away doesn't land it back in the ocean.

As with most things on the East Coast, it is rich and filled with history! This place used to be a summer home for this family a long time ago. Since then, the family donated the land to be a conservation and created a trust which is great. This means that it won't be destroyed and turned into condos or something stupid as so many things do along the shoreline these days. Stupid developments!

What's fun is it's got a really wide variety of amazing fish! There are lots of local fish in these tanks, where they highlight the local ecology. I don't know the names of all of the fish, but I like how they focus it on stuff that actually lives in the area instead of exotic fish from thousands of miles away. The exotics are cool, but so aren't the things in our own backyard!

The one I do know is this steelhead trout. They are one of the only saltwater trout species and one I've been trying to catch unsuccessfully for years! One day I will eventually land one.. but in the meantime I get to enjoy looking at this fella when we go to the museum here.

What would a museum for ocean stuff on the East Coast be without a lobster, and a blue lobster at that?! They rotate the lobsters in this one, as they find different ones every so often. One time they had one that was split down the middle orange on one side and blue on the other. That was pretty awesome looking!

That's a very colorful lobster there, unfortunately it was hiding under a rock and all that full body didn't come out.
I think if everyone took the responsibility to pick up the trash, there will of course be less thrash especially in a place like the beach.

Oh for sure I hope one day a lot more people care about the trash problem, not just picking it up but burning it or disposing of it properly instead of trucking it somewhere else and dumping it off the side into the water.

The lobster is one to hide that's for sure!

I'm a bit familiar with the trout, have seen it a couple of times from fishermen coming to the shore after fishing. Blue and orange lobster looks like a good color combo, didn't even knew such a kind exist prior to reading this post.

Yeah I didn't realize they had such a cool colored lobster either! Really cool stuff. I'll have to take a picture of the info flyer next time I think it was 1 in 100 million chance which is wild, we saw one last year there.

The trout is awesome! I've never seen one besides this so it's really cool to get to see one, and a big fella at that!

That's super rare! No wonder most of us didn't realize such a kind of lobster exists. Marine life is quite fascinating too.

Very cool! I haven't been to the aquarium in a long time, but it is always one of my favorite parts of the zoo when we visit.

Yeah we love going to aquariums because my son gets to be a lot closer to the animals compared to a zoo. We saw some pretty awesome ones here!

Wow awesome place brother! It's good they have a museum such as this close to you and the coast. It really gives what is lurking in the sea water. Oh the steelhead, never caught one but its on my list. Between that and and the blue lobster are my favorites. Thanks for sharing 😃

I love the blue lobster for sure! They've got a few they rotate in and out to give them a break. There tends to be a lot of poking on the glass by the kiddos lol so it gets stressed.

I think being this close to the coast is one of the reasons we have trouble thinking of living somewhere else like iowa or others. We do enjoy the coast a lot!
