Good day everyone I am back again with another interesting set of fun facts about our precious metals. I talked about silver in my last post, so in this post I am talking about our precious Gold.
1* Gold was formed from Meteorites
In case some of us don't know what a meteorite is, it is a piece of rock or metal that fell to the earth's surface from outer space. Scientists reported that almost all the gold on Earth came from meteorites that destroyed the planet over 200 million years after it formed. I just can't stop thinking about how ironic it is that the things that almost destroyed earth millions of years ago, are now our precious stone today, wow, life really does evolve.
2* How gold was named
Have you ever thought about how gold was named or how our forefathers came up with the word gold or even how scientists decided to name gold scientific name Au.
our precious Gold gets its name from the German word gulþa (meaning gold). before it was called gold, it was formally called geolu which means yellow. The element symbol for gold Au comes from the old Latin name for gold, aurum, which means "shining dawn" or "glow of sunrise.".
3* Gold does not rust
the reason our precious gold does not rust is because it a noble metal and does not react to its environment, especially air/oxygen. so no matter where gold is, it will always shine, unlike other metals. another reason is that gold comes in its natural form and doesn't need to go through industrial processing for it to shine.
4* There is Gold in the human body
we all know that there are some irons in our body, and hope we all know that there is also a small amount of gold in our bodies. it can be found in our brains, bones and joints. If all the pure gold found in our body is collected it can be up to 0.229 milligrams of gold in someone who weighs 70kg.

5* Olympic Gold isnt fully gold
yes, you read that correctly, the gold medals presented to the Olympic gold winner are not fully gold. there are only about 6 grams of gold which is only used to plait the exterior look, but the interior is made with silver which accounts for over 90% of the medal.
interesting stuff right? I hope we are able to learn one or two things from this interesting facts, see you all in my next post.
