I almost didn't wait for this coin, but it finally arrived from Portugal! So now I can show the 200 Escudos as well.
This coin from Portugal commemorates the 5th Centenary of the discovery of the New World.

As I promised @kerrislravenhill, I want to show the coin, which shows the arrival at Tanegashima Island.
It honors the historic meeting between Portuguese explorers and Japanese civilization.
The coin depicts the time that Portuguese explorers brought guns to Japan, changing the path of history forever. Highlighting the importance of this crucial moment in world history, the inscription "IV Series of Discoveries The Great Meeting of Civilizations, Arrival on Tanegashima Island" frames the scene.
1992 Portugal 200 Escudos and 1993 Portugal 1000 Escudos
Portugal's maritime expertise ushered in the Age of Exploration.
A little kingdom of a million or so people began the period of marine exploration that would change the course of history in the fifteenth century.
Portugal, which is located on the southwest coast of the Iberian peninsula, looked to the Atlantic Ocean as its only port of entry into the global community. Portuguese navigators first ventured into the alluring waters beyond their borders in 1341, when they discovered the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa.
The Portuguese had already taken the world lead in mapping, shipbuilding, and navigation. Soon after the 15th century began, Morocco—a Muslim stronghold thought to be the entryway to gold, spices, and other immense riches in Africa and beyond—came into the eyes of ambitious King John I of Portugal.
A Portuguese fleet announced Portugal's entry into the world arena in 1415 when it crossed the Strait of Gibraltar. Prince Henry the Navigator, the son of John, funded multiple missions throughout the western coast of Africa in the ensuing decades with the goal of converting Africans to Christianity and enriching Portugal with income from slaves, gold, and spices. Portugal introduced the slave trade to the Americas by establishing colonies on uninhabited Atlantic African islands that were used as hubs for the gathering of commodities and captives.
