I live in a small seaside town called Medulin. That's my hometown. Pula is the nearest city. I go there regularly. Once a week, at least. I also went to the middle school there, and since there wasn't much going on in Medulin, especially in winter, I did most of my partying in Pula. That's why I consider it my city.
When it comes to architecture and history, Pula has plenty to offer. In this opening shot, you can see the Roman triumphal arch built between 29 and 27 BC, one of the gates to the ancient city. Behind the arch, you can see two lovely buildings from 1838 when the square shown in the photograph was organized in the shape that can be seen today.
Here you can see two human figures on the nearby promenade. One of them is resting, and the other still has to work a couple of hours before the end of the morning shift. One of them has all the free time in the world because it's only a sculpture, a humanoid shape frozen in time, while the other has bills to pay and stuff to buy to keep himself alive.
The sculpture represents Mate Parlov, a boxer that won many Olympic medals and other box-related stuff from the late sixties to the early eighties.
The relation between the sculpture and the real man is visually interesting and gives a bit of vague symbolism and a raison d'être to this otherwise pretty gratuitous paparazzi shot.
On the road near the promenade, the city bus stopped to pick up the passengers. I took this photograph when the bus was ready to leave.
This scene was photographed in one of the streets very close to the square. The contrast between the people and their activities caught my attention. The security guard was doing his probably pretty boring job near the entrance of a bank while the street performer was humming some melodies accompanied by the tambourine.
There isn't much going on in this photograph and there is nothing I can tell you about the buildings shown here, but you can see another street in the center of the city. That's something too. The following photograph ...
... was taken only forty or fifty meters further. I passed by this building many times before. Hundreds. Maybe even thousands or more. But only on the 8th of February 2023, when all the photographs in this post were taken, I noticed that this piece of architecture looks pretty cool when seen from a low angle. United Colors of Benetton store is situated on the ground floor, that's all I can tell you about the building introduced in the above photograph.
This shot was taken from the opposite end of the same street. While standing on the corner, busy observing the things around me, I noticed a detail worth photographing in the narrow space between two buildings.
Steam or smoke, I'm not sure now what it was, appeared from a hole or pipe that wasn't visible from where I was standing. In this photograph the thing was released under pressure, I think ...
... while here, you can see the smoke or steam floating and dissolving in a more relaxed way.
AND THAT'S IT. THIS QUICK INTRODUCTION ENDS HERE. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE TOUR. HAVE A GREAT DAY, OR NIGHT, WHEREVER IN THE WORLD YOU ARE. AS ALWAYS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.
