Many long years ago I embarked on an adventure that shaped the rest of my life. After high graduation in the early 1990's I decided to seek out some interesting jobs to earn a living. One of my favorite activities when I was younger was skiing and later I got into snowboarding and it was a blast! A friend of mine told me he planned to head to South America to be a ski instructor in Chile, and I decided to do the same. It was one of the best moves I ever made!
In June I headed to Chile and knowing almost no Spanish I started to learn the language while living in a new country. There I found lifelong friends and it changed the course of my life. After the ski season had ended I had been offered a position in Santiago and I took it. I spent most of the next decade in South America and the Caribbean, and I would encourage any young person to do the same. Take chances, travel, push yourself even if you don't know the language. I now speak Spanish as well as if not better than English, depending on the day!
That 1990's experience leads directly into my post of the day. It's time for a Nineties Friday post because I have missed the last couple of weeks. Today I'll kick off with a very cool contraption that I owned back in the day, the Sony Sports Discman. This was the replacement to the old cassette Walkman that I had for years. What was nice is this had shock protection so bumps wouldn't cause it to skip while playing. I used mine until wore out! Finding one in working condition today might be hard, but technology is leaving disks behind little by little. The digital versions often sound better and don't scratch up! lol

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

This series ran from 1987 until 1990 so it counts as a 90's series! Micki and Ryan inherit and antique store and start selling the stock from the shop. Then they learn they have been selling dangerous cursed items to people and begin the quest to retrieve them all. I remember watching this show and it was pretty good, although I haven't seen an episode in years. But it's a perfect for this Friday the 13th! Couldn't find any promo reels but here is the opening scene for the show:
Today's songs are ones that I recall hearing frequently after I first arrived in Chile, so all very early 1990's songs in English and some in Spanish.
Guns N' Roses
hungarytoday.hu
Guns N' Roses formed in Los Angeles in 1985. It was a merger of bands L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. At the time they didn't know they were destined for superstardom, but that's what they became. I remember when I was in Chile they were on the radio all the time, GNR was a very popular band in South America. "You Could Be Mine" was huge in Chile at the time and I even saw them play live in Santiago, Chile in 1992 I believe!
Metallica
fanpop.com
Metallica was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. They produced great music throughout the decade but when they released their self title "Black" album they became mainstream rock stars. I think most everyone knows the song "Enter Sandman", but I'll throw a twist in here. Instead of Metallica playing it I'll share Volbeat performing the song with Lars Ulrich (Metallica's drummer) on the drum kit. This is really good cover for the old 1991 classic!
Daniela Romo

This Mexican actor and singer started her career very young and was a popular artist by the time she was twenty. She had a string of hits throughout the eighties and into the early 1990's. I recall while I was in Chile this was a song that was on the radio all of time. This one is "Todo, todo, todo".
Myriam Hernandez
corazon.cl
This Chilean singer took the Latin music world by storm when she released her first self titled album in 1988. This was followed by and even bigger album in 1990 called "Dos" (Two) with multiple hits and several number one chart toppers. This one was very often on the radio back when I was first in Chile, it's "Peligrosos Amor" (Dangerous love).
Chayanne
telemundo.com
This singer from Puerto Rico started young in a group called Los Chicos than were competitors for the band Menudo at the time. He went solo in the late eighties, but his fifth album called "Tiempo De Vals" had numerous hit songs. The one I remember hearing frequently was "Completamente Enamorados" (Completely in Love):
