Do you need to see edits to a post or comment?

in #hive-139531last year

So my lovely mom @snook came to me with what I thought was a simple request, as she often does. How can I see what this comment was before the edit? You can see that on hiveblocks.com I said, here let me show you.....

But wait, it seems you can't! (anymore?) I'm not sure if I am gaslighting myself, so I reached out to @thecrazygm - am I crazy? He too thought this used to be easier to do, available in hiveblocks. I spent about an hour going through timestamps and PAGES of txs to find.... something. But this comment was edited many times, and maybe even there was more than one comment.

At the end, I pretty much gave up. I said to @thecrazygm, there has to be a better way to do this! Couldn't we make a simple tool to scrape through the blocks and find all these edits?

image.png

Yes indeed, we could - and we did! Check it out here: https://magnets.infinitexlinks.com/lookup

This is a new tool to 'Lookup Edits' to any post or comment on the HIVE blockchain. This is an easy to use tool for detectives or just interested users thinking - hmmm, I wonder what they said initially?

Just get the permalink, and you can see the whole history of the post or comment, like this story that was deleted to 'save readers time'.

One cool thing about developing and working on blockchain is that everything is there. But if its hard or even possible to find, what is the difference?

The difference is that by developing tools we can bring what is available to the fingertips of ordinary humans looking to use these new technologies and all of their possibilities.

We have hosted this tool on our partner project @magnetbank site - read more about magnet bank on its blog. Because of this some users may experience this message, thank you @snook for pointing this out:

I can assure you that there is nothing to worry about, and if you are worried than just don't click any links, just use the look up tool. We may make a second page for just tools to avoid this issue in the future, since the powers that be do not like torrents, but for now - it is what it is.

We are open to all of your feedback, comments and celebrations - leave them for us below.

NO, I don't usually need to see edits or posts, but yes, sometimes you need to see it, thanks for sharing this post that help us to see our edits.

I Think its very great and helpful application and people's like to use it. because even humans make mistakes and post wrong things, then they can easily edit it and make it right.

Peakd has that in view versions.

yup yup, amazing what you learn by building the tool and doing a post about it. Its easy and everyone has already done it.

You gotta get up early around here.

This is great! I was just recently thinking about how much i missed steemworld.org tool. Ive tried hive stats…but it doesn’t seem to have all the ways of exploring.

Curious if you have any hot tips on useful tools that are user friendly. Lol… im still a Butt when it gets really technical. Steemworld had the perfect mix of user friendly tools, and im actively seeking to experiment with whatever options hive has to offer.

Been a while, hope you are well my man!
Are you still in Colombia?

Yes we are, and we are doing great! You might be interested in what we are building with ECOBANK down here, all the posts are reblogged here: https://peakd.com/@ecobanker

In terms of tools, they are all spread out and there is no good interface like steemworld used to be. Maybe slowly we will build them back.... you might check https://hivestats.io/@username, https://hiveblocks.com/@username and/or https://peakd.com/@username/wallet and its derivative dropdowns.

Nice, great to hear. I’ll check that out.
Cheers for the tips on tools, I’m aware of the hive stats, but I’ll take a look at the others. Yeah would be sweet if some day an all around tool like steemworld comes out on hive🤞

This is a nice tool. I saw that someone else mentioned ecency and I think that is the easier option. Either way, having more options is good and I am not sure if you need to be logged in to view it though.

great work guys, I will look it up if I need it in future

Very handy application, thanks for the work, man!

!ALIVE

@ecoinstant! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @mirroredspork. (3/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want, plus you can win Hive Power and Alive Power delegations and Ecency Points in our chat every day.

It peakd you can see edits. Click on the 3 dots at the bottom of the post and select "View Versions". Works for both posts and comments.

But more tools are always good. Thanks for this one!

Don't call it a comeback, we've been here for years!

You can use the @ecency to check the edit history very easily.
Clicked on three dots on right top in app and choose option - edit history.
I guess this is one of the easy way to check.

I don't use ecency but I know many people do.

You can view it on website as well. Just add ?history into post url. For example for your own post it would be: https://ecency.com/hive-139531/@ecoinstant/do-you-need-to-see-edits-to-a-post-or-comment?history

This is really cool

Yeah for comments the edit history would be when you view it on their profile direct.

Interesting tool man!

Oh! I guess you get tasks that help you more to strengthen your knowledge, thanks for sharing this content with us here. it really useful, and I might say I learn something. I think it's really going to be a great opportunity for me to use it in the nearest future if am in trouble of such issues.

That's great to have tools like this. Alternatively, you can use https://ProofofBrain.blog or Ecency.com Edit History. It doesn't mean you can change history but instead you can see the history of changes.
