I recently purchased another filament management to go from 4 to 8 material printing with my latest 3d printer, come to find out the 8 color printing is coming soon I have the second filament management system but there is no way to connect it to the printer, that part is what is coming soon...
Thankfully there is a community solution!
Why ???
So the company does mention in the fine print that the 8 material printing is coming out at a later time, and above I just mentioned that there is a community solution but why didn't the company release it if the community managed to make a solution.
Well I have been giving it some thought and I think the most likely answer is not that they couldn't release the part but that they chose to delay it.
If you are into 3d printing the above likely made things click and you understand for everyone that didn't get that here is the breakdown.
The reason they delayed the release is to relive the stress on their technical support with newly released gadgets especially printers, when you buy a new machine it's almost like you buying in to be a beta tester, most the time the companies release a machine and with these beta customers they can iron out the kinks and make the unit more solid and stable.
With delaying the 8 material they are reducing the ammount of issues they will have to address, smart move I suppose, I know some of you may be thinking why release something that is not really ready, This is capitalism comrade 🤣
Community solution
Folk in the 3d printing community are not afraid of problems and challenges, and so we found some solution, I am glad someone else designed the needed parts, It saves me a lot of time, plastic and stress making my own from scratch.
Right below is my first test print with the community solution the 8 color wheel came out great but looks at all the waste ouch.
And bellow is the community designed hub I printed, works like a charm!
I know I mentioned in my previous blog post that I will not be using my resin printed until I make a ventilation system, well I did for this part I just set it when no one would be at home, It came out great I also printed a challenger coin with the batch but more on that in another post.
Unfortunately the top part ended up breaking it was still working but I printed another part out of yellow PETG a more flexible and strong material.
I also made my own color wheel test print it is a lot smaller then my first test and has some rounded edges
