I normally post about gold or silver, but it's nice to diverge from that every once in a while. Having real money is great. Protecting it is a matter of secrecy. Loose lips sink ships. Sometimes fate comes knocking, through no fault of your own, and it pays to be prepared for the worst.
For when trouble decides to visit my home, I have my Stribog SP9A1 right near the bed. I pray the only time I have to use it in my lifetime is for target shooting at the range, but it's there just in case.
It's nothing too fancy. It's a simple blowback action 9mm "pistol" with a brace. The magazine holds 30 rounds, which I have loaded with 135 grain Hornady Critical Duty rounds.
On top, I have a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 mounted. It uses a simple CR2032 battery, but boasts a battery life of 40,000 hours (4.5 years) if left constantly on. The best feature is that the reticle is designed to automatically power on when it senses movement. This means the red dot is ready to go in the middle of the night, as soon as I pick up the gun. On the other side I added a Sig Sauer Foxtrot 1x light, so I can identify objects in low and no light situations.
Lastly, some of you noticed the suppressor on the end. I went with the CGS Mod9SK for this gun, because it keeps the overall length down and it's lightweight, so it prevents the gun from being front-heavy. It does all of this while keeping things quiet. With the right ammo, the gun hardly makes any noise.
Some of you probably wondered why I chose 135 grain hollow points, seeing as how it's a slightly odd weight for 9mm. Through experimenting, 124 grain still leaves a slight "pop" and louder sound report than heavier bullets. The 135 grain is slow enough to reduce that to hearing safe levels indoors, and the Hornady Critical Duty rounds have a taper for improved feeding.
It's a fun gun to shoot at the range and is very accurate for how short it is. It's certainly one I could never sell.
What gun do you use for home defense?
Each month, I give away a $1 Goldback or 4 HBD. The winner gets to choose.
Note: Some countries may have prohibitively expensive shipping or delivery, which may not be feasible. I reserve the right to award the winner 4 HBD instead of a Goldback at my discretion.
