A Lil Retrospection

Feeling tired or burnt out?

Take a break. Rest and sleep like there is no tomorrow.

Hurting?

Spill it out. Cry if you must. Sometimes the tears are a form of cleansing.

Don't know what to do?

Seek help.

"It's that simple, but we make life complicated," someone once said at a gathering. Well, it's easy for us to say something until we are in the situation.

I had an online conversation with someone close last night. She is persistently being challenged by health issues and also psychological stress from some things that emotionally hurt her in the past. Accordingly, once triggered, she loses her body reflexes (she will have seizures), her muscles cramp, and her blood pressure shoots up.

At one time, I saw her breathing in and out of a brown paper bag. When asked what was wrong, she said she felt suffocated. She then shared having an oxygen tank in their home for her use whenever her anxiety attacks.

Last night, she truly opened up to me while in a hospital bed (coincidentally, I was lying on one many kilometers away). She admitted her work has been suffering and that she bothers her kids often. Her situation is quite relatable to me due to a similar personal experience years ago. As such, I had real empathy. While I am not a counselor, at least I had something to share - what I went through, what I did to overcome my troubles, the challenges, and how I felt afterward.

She was thankful as we ended our chat, saying it lightened her load and hopeful too, that she would triumph against her demons. I told her I had faith that she would. I bade her goodnight with a fervent and silent prayer she could find her way out (as I did) and live a happier, liberating life.

Last night's conversation gave me moments of retrospection, and in turn, made me grateful that my previous experience (which used to drain me emotionally and cause me much distress) is now being used to help give hope to others. And I'm glad that it no longer haunts or pains me but serves as a good example of how one rose above her most difficult psychological battle.

I'm happy she reached out and I will surely be checking on her more often. I truly hope she recovers soon or at her own pace...

Sometimes, we are used to fight our silent battles alone. Maybe that's why only few open up and seek for advice or help.

That's true, sis. Sinasarili na lang kesa kung ano pa ang masabi ng iba.

Yes, and experience is the best teacher they say :) Thank you for your awesome input.

I agree that life is not a bed of roses but it's not do hard either. We are reasonable for making our life hard on ourselves specially our thoughts. So, thinking simple and make our life better and we should try to enjoy the blessing of life by thinking positive.

You're right, Inti. Often, we overthink or take things to heart and they continue to hurt us.

Sorry to hear about your health and that of your closed one. How are you doing now?

Sufferings from past sometimes keep on haunting us and lead us to a point where it affects are present happenings in a negarive way.

I agree that if we share our heart with a confidant, we feel relaxed. Sometimes, we even get the idea of recovery from our troubles too.

If we need help we should seek it. I believe, it helps a lot

I am doing very well, Amber. Thank you :) My challenges happened years ago and thankfully, they no longer haunt me. You are right, it helps when we share our heart with someone we trust for it can be a key to our recovery.

thankfully, they no longer haunt me.

That's the best part.

There are some harsh experiences of my life. Now when I am out of them emotionally, I realize they added to my wisdom and made me able to provide a helping hand to others in the simklar kind of circumstances.

Everything in our lives serves a purpose whether or not we understand it

Yes, it's amazing how our previous struggles can now provide guidance or help to others. I agree that everything has a purpose including those we wished at some point in time to have not experienced.

Letting people know about your psychological battles could be a road to recovery, instead of leaving it in, letting it out is more like it.
Thank you for being there for her.

That's right, Jemima. Bottling it all in usually makes it worse. Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate you ❤️

Many thanks, I appreciate it :)

There is a saying that goes this way, "Problem shared is half solved". This is exactly what occurred after you acted like a counselor at that moment.
Thanks goodness you did, sometimes it's good for one to forget about his ability and do the needful, just like you did, you didn't close up because you aren't a counselor but you did your best and saved a soul.
I'm happy for you. I'm happy for you friend because she has found the best friend ever, and that's you.
Thanks for sharing friend.
Enjoy your day, besides, I love the cover photo, goes well with your post of retrospection.

Those are nice words, my fren. I don't know what to say but thank you, thank you :) I appreciate you 😊

It always feels so good when you are the reason someone is feeling better, thank you for lifting her burden.

It does, especially when it happens unexpectedly :) Thank you too for your kind compliment.
