There are some skills which we learn in our childhood and it becomes beneficial in our adult life. It opens lifelong opportunities further in life. Although no skill is useless in our life, but some are more helpful and advantageous.
Chosing to learn English has been a turning point in my life. I learned English in my school as a second language. As a language widely spoken in the world it brought lots of benefits and opened the door of opportunities for me. It is an international language which bridges the gap between people from around the world.
Some of the benefits of learning more than one languages are here;
Being bilingual or multilingual can be enriching for anyone's life in many ways. Some of the advantages are;
- People who learn more than one language tend to have a better understanding of the mechanics of languages they are said to be good in learning languages.
- They know better structuring of sentences with better grammar which can be beneficial for their writing skills. Making them better communicators and writers.
- It sharpens the brain as learning new things stimulates the parts of the brain which are used to store more information thus making it work more.
- It makes one more intelligent
They understand other cultures and people better than those who only know their mother tongue and never learned other languages. - They can connect with the culture and society where the language is spoken. Which allows for more meaningful interaction socially can form relationship with people from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
- Memory is improved and it can improve the multitasking abilities of those who learn more than one language.
- There are some health benefits too related to being bilingual or multilingual. They have more chances of faster stroke recovery and late onset of dementia as compared to monolinguals.
- It opens doors to wider career paths where you can use your language skills. Find jobs related to connecting with people from other countries.
- It increases one's adaptability of acceptance of other societies and cultures.
- It can open doors to a wider range of educational opportunities too. One can get education in other countries too where that language is spoken.
How is it beneficial for me to know English as a second language?
It made me think out of the box and made it easier for me to communicate with people around the world. It opened broader opportunities for me in career and education wise.
I feel comfortable talking to people of other cultures as I accept diversity. It enhanced my acceptance of other cultures and people of other ethnicities. I can feel connected to them. I am more open minded. I love reading English books as well as books in my native language.
I can't imagine not knowing English and being blank to the outside world. It would be like a great deal of knowledge missing. English connects me to the vast world. It's the most valuable skill which would keep on giving me back entire life.
Reasons of learning English:
Learning English from early years is like an investment in the future of child. Opening the door of education and career opportunities for the child. Linguistic skills acquired in the formative years built upon throughout the life of that person.
I am thankful to my parents that they made the choice of educating me in English as well with my native language. It has enhanced my quality of life and opened many doors for me. I am able to write here and communicate with you people.
