Eduardo was and still is one of those guys who breathed rhythm. For some reason he has a knack for everything he does and can find music and rhythm almost anywhere. If he hears someone playing a spoon on a pot, he already starts imagining in his mind how he could play a song with that rhythm he is hearing. At home, his family is not surprised to see him playing with anything that sounds. Many would find this way of being a little strange or odd. But when you get to know him well, you will see that it is quite the opposite.
His ability to find rhythm in any sound he heard was not unusual because he had spent the last 12 years of his life banging drums and cymbals on his drum kit. He belonged to a band and was a very important part of it. The band is called Metal Strong. He is a founding member of it so he has been in it since the beginning. He formed the band with his childhood friends, many of whom knew how to play other instruments so when they were old enough they decided they wanted to form a band. And this is where Eduardo spent most of his youth, playing with them. And now as an adult he still continues to play with them. But until recently this was not the case he had to take a good time off due to some things that were beyond his control.
Everything was going pretty well until that fateful night. It was not one of those rock nights he was already used to, no in fact it was very quiet. He did not expect something like that to happen. He had decided that he wanted to buy a hamburger a few blocks from his house. There was no food in the houses that day, so the only option he feared was to buy a hamburger. He got in his car, arrived at the place and bought it. After picking it up, he ate it with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the hamburger. The saying about not looking at your cell phone while driving also applies to food. He took his eyes off the road for a moment to open the food wrapper.
When he finished doing so he looked back at the road but saw a child crossing the street without looking to the sides. He had to act fast, either he would run over the child or the child would crash into a concrete wall to avoid the crash. Obviously he chose the latter so he ended up turning the wheel sharply and the car slid and crashed. The car was badly damaged but he was even more damaged in a literal and even sentimental sense. When he woke up he realized that he was in the hospital with both arms in casts and a hazy memory of how he had gotten there. The child, he was told, had come out unharmed, so he breathed a sigh of relief and then cursed the hamburger.
Because of this accident he had fractured his arms so now he was in a very difficult situation. He wouldn't be able to play again for a long time so he was very worried. The band had planned many events so now because of this accident they would have to postpone everything and that made him feel bad because it was affecting everyone. But it was the reality now he couldn't play anymore, at least until he recovered. His friends went to see him at the hospital to give him their support and tell him that there was no problem. They would wait until he came back. He thanked them very much. Then, back at home, the days began to pass. This was where the most difficult stage came because he was used to being a very active person and now he was incapacitated.
He had to spend the whole day on the couch, watching series, eating food but feeling, in general, quite mediocre. Every now and then, one of his bandmates would come to visit him and encourage him. These moments are what helped him a little to keep going. He told them that the worst thing for him was the immobility, both physical and mental. Because he couldn't touch, and without touching, it was as if a part of him was on hold.
Despite all this, they continued to encourage him and told him not to lose patience, that he would soon be able to play again. Eight months passed after the accident. At this point, the doctors finally called him for a consultation. They told him that his bones were now healthy but that he would not be able to play until he had gone through some therapy sessions. He became very conscious because he was already overcoming the problem and the truth is that he could not hold out much longer, but the support of his colleagues helped him to continue to endure the difficult situation. He told himself that if he had already come this far, he might as well continue.
The therapies lasted three more months, but they had a great positive effect on him. He went from not being able to hold a spoon in his hands to being able to lift a barbell, it was great progress. Just recently, they finally gave him the go-ahead to play again. The whole experience was very difficult but he was back to normal, he had overcome the problem. When he arrived at their studio, his friends threw him a very emotional party and gave him a hamburger as a souvenir of the incident. After thanking everyone for their help, he told them he only had one piece of advice: not to drive with a hamburger in your hand. They all laughed and finally began to rehearse.
