This week for Three Tune Tuesday I really had no idea what theme/ band I was going to share with you all. That all changed when I was driving and a song came on the radio that I hadn't heard in a long, long time and an idea popped into my head! I will admit that most of the songs I'm going to share today were written before I was even born, but they're still awesome songs to this day! And since most of these are from the seventies I made the blog banner in appropriate bright seventies colors (or at least tied to!)
Today will be the day of the "Unholy Trinity of British Hard Rock and Heavy Metal". Back in the late sixties/early seventies there were three English hard rock/ heavy metal bands that were included in this group. First up was Black Sabbath, secondly Led Zeppelin, and the third was Deep Purple. So I decided to share a song from each of them for you enjoyment today!
First up will be Black Sabbath headed by none other than Ozzy Osbourne. They were a heavy metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 but didn't settle on their band name until a year later. Over the next ten years they release multiple highly successful albums, but in 1979 they famously fired Ozzy from the band because of his excessive drug use. They later reconciled and he rejoined the band. In March 2017 they disbanded for the last time.
This song was released in 1970 and was critical of the Vietnam War, thus the name "War Pigs".

The second band up today will be none other than the iconic Led Zeppelin. They formed in 1968 in London, England and signed a record deal with Atlantic records not long after. They produced eight albums over the next ten years, although not popular with critics at first they had huge commercial success with their fans. They disbanded in 1980 after the death of band member John Bonham after a day of very heavy drinking.
Of course the song most everyone knows by them is "Stairway To Heaven" which of course I won't be sharing today. Instead I decided to go with one known as "Immigrant Song". If you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy you already heard it in their second movie.

Last but not least we have the band Deep Purple who also formed in 1968 in London, England. The group are the only one of the three bands shared today who haven't permanently disbanded. They were named the "globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records for a concert played in London's Rainbow Theater in 1972. In the span of their career they have sold over 100 million albums and were an important influence in hard rock and heavy metal bands that followed.
Here it a fun song called "Space Truckin'"
