Recently, the largest server of the classic version of Tibia is back online. I am referring to Nostalrius (Currently supports English, Spanish, and Portuguese languages).
As a fan of this game, which marked my teenage years, I couldn’t resist checking how the server is doing now.
I started by creating the character Berserk, and ironically, he's a Knight with Sword skills. I was going to choose Axe or Club, but I thought about it more carefully and decided that this time I want to follow a slightly different path from what I usually do, not being the good guy—it's time to focus on becoming a real Red Skull LOL.
🌟 Starting in the city of Carlin
Normally, it's expected for any player to follow the standard route.
But what is the standard route? Well, you don't go directly to Kazordoon to face Dwarfs right after reaching level 8. You need to look for smaller things like Rats, Trolls, and Rotworms. And we can find this whole route in the city of Thais.
So why Carlin? Well, I thought that with Over 1000 players, certainly there would be new players like me who want to get past this boring and tedious phase as quickly as possible. It's even worse to compete against Paladins, as they can already use the Spear, which has great attack power. Yes, if you create a Knight, get ready for the first few hours of boredom, as you’ll have the option to either stop somewhere and train on a weak monster or just click and watch as you hit the monster every 3 swings, taking off less than 1% of the monster's maximum health.
🌟 Bug Hunt
Another positive point for this city is that there's a hunting spot just below the center, in the sewers to be more precise, to follow the game’s roleplay.
This place can also be considered similar to the Rat sewers in Thais, but if I compare the space’s occupancy to that of the Rats, I can certainly kill more creatures in less time here. My mission was to eliminate 100 Bugs to get a good amount of money, 2000 Gold Coins to be exact. That would be my first step toward getting better equipment. Well, I was using a mediocre sword and the Leather set obtained in Rookgaard.
I think I finished this mission in 1 to 2 hours; it's hard to say exactly since there were other players on the map, so we had to kill as much as possible and then return to a spot to wait for the creatures to respawn.
🌟 Exploring the rest of the city
After completing the mission, I was heading back to Carlin’s depot when I caught someone being killed by a Scarab.
But aren't Scarabs weak creatures? What are they doing in the city of Carlin?
There’s a bit of a tricky exploit used by dishonest players: you use a Shovel to dig in the sand near the city, and after a few tries, you might either get tokens to enter the Ankrahmun tombs or just be cursed and summon a Scarab. Then it is lured into the city and starts attacking AFK players or lower-level players, as its Poison ability is a big problem for beginners.
You can see what I just mentioned in the image above. Around the player "Boltada", there’s a body and a slain Scarab—a cunning and disrespectful strategy, I would say.
With the money I earned, I quickly went to try and get the Plate Set, which consists of Plate Armor, Plate Legs, and a Steel Helmet. Then I aimed to get a better sword than this garbage one, eventually opting for a Serpent Sword with a decent mid-level attack, and it's one-handed, allowing me to use a shield.
🌟 Bone Key + Access to the Carlin Cemetery
To the southeast of the ship, you can find a key located in a chest in one of the houses scattered around there.
It gives you access to the Carlin cemetery. Some people might pass by and leave it open, but you don’t want to get stuck there. Yes, in Tibia, it’s possible to lock certain doors, and if you don’t have one of the keys, you’ll only have two options.
Kill yourself or try to ask for help. However, with the second option, you often become a target for looters, as you won’t have any way to escape anyway.
