Now we know what the future holds 💸 👀

Hype for PlayStation's next iteration of VR has been building throughout all of 2022. We've slowly been getting drip-fed bits of info every few months. We know what the headset and controller look like, some of the first-party games it will launch with, and the fact that the original PSVR games will not be compatible with PSVR 2.

The biggest PlayStation virtual reality info drop yet has just been released in a recent PSVR 2 PlayStation blog post. The price and release date have both been revealed. The good thing is that the PSVR 2 will be here very soon. The bad news, it is much more expensive than most consumers were expecting.

The PSVR 2 will cost a whopping $550. That's the price before tax, added accessories, and games. If you don't already own a PS5, then you'll have to cough up some dough for that as well. Which if you've been paying attention, the PS5 received a price increase throughout most of the world a few months back. You're looking at well over $1,000 for everything, but is that the cost to get access to next-gen VR?

Like the PS5's DualSense controller, the PSVR 2's Sense controller will feature adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. However, the PSVR 2 Sense controller charging station will cost an additional $50. That means that if you want the most convenient way to charge your controllers, then you're looking at $600 already. Remember that the PSVR 2 is wired, which means you won't ever have to worry about charging it. Another side note is that there will be haptics in the headset as well, which is a major difference between Meta's VR options.

At least the launch lineup of PSVR 2 games is starting to look beefy. [This blog post has every single game announced so far, as well as a few rumored games. There are a lot of great-looking options such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, Crossfire: Sierra Squad, Pistol Whip VR, Zenith: The Last City, Resident Evil Village, After The Fall, and many more.

The release date for PSVR 2 is set for Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Preorders through PlayStation Direct start on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. You can register to preorder now.

In today's video

I will be discussing every single thing that we know about the PSVR 2 so far. There is a lot! Luckily, I have plenty of PSVR 2 gameplay to accompany my commentary.

Enjoy the video and comment on your thoughts about PSVR 2. It certainly looks like a huge leap forward in terms of the evolution of VR. The question remains, is this thing dead on arrival due to price? Consumers seem to have mixed reactions. One side understands that the tech under the hood warrants the high cost, while others can barely afford to pay for PS Plus and will be left scrounging for the funds to buy this fancy new gadget for quite some time.

I'm on the fence about this. I've never played VR in my life outside of putting my friend's Meta Quest on for like 30 seconds and not even getting to play a game. I promised myself that I'd be getting the PSVR 2 no matter what, but it costs quite a bit more than I was expecting. It all really depends on where the crypto markets go these next few months. If prices jump up again, I'll probably buy one. If things stay where they are now or somehow manage to go lower, I don't feel like this is a very smart way to spend $600+ during a time when financial markets aren't looking so hot. Especially because I'm not even sure how much I'd even use the thing considering I have zero experience with VR. I'm currently more than satisfied with regular games on PS5, so I'm being patient with this decision.

One thing is for certain, it will be exciting to see how the PSVR 2 reviews once it launches early next year. Stay tuned for more information.

Thanks for watching!

I didn't know that PS VR allows us to play such fantastic games. I wish I'd have a taste of this VR or an upgraded one someday.

There are going to be quite a few games at launch. Plus many more will release later and I’m sure even some ports of VR games that are already out.

I too wish I could see what all of this is like. I’m sure we both will eventually.

Dude, it's really expensive. It could be a great device, it could be the technology of the future, but it's still too expensive. I don't know how many people will buy it, but if the price was 350 dollars, it could be bought 2 times more. 550 dollars is too much.

At least they are actually making this thing a heck of a lot better than the original PSVR. The only thing is, I'm not sure if it's for everybody just yet.

I think I will keep away this time. I dumped my original one long ago after using it twice or so. Sony have a terrible habit of abandoning their products if they don't catch on. Look at the original and the Vita.

I never took the bait on the original, despite having 20+ PSVR titles in my PS Plus library right now. I know Sony is capable of abandonment, but hopefully, VR is actually here to stick around and it won't be a wasted effort. I'll continue to watch from the sidelines for now.

Undoubtedly, it's going to be an immersive experience but it's quite a costly one. I bet you are getting one upon release.

As of right now, I think I am going to pass. I do hope to own one eventually though.

This definitely is one thing worth to pay!! VR experience is really great!! i bet ps5 will delivery some good stuff with it!

I have a feeling it's going to be worth the money, but it is still a lot of money. A lot of people are on the fence, but there are still plenty who know without a doubt they will be buying one. I'm sure sales will be just fine.

You had me at

SAMURAI SLAUGHTERHOUSE!! :p

but for real, the hardware looks sic.. the controls are quite different..

good list of games for it too!

If I were heavy into gaming I might get this to be a the front of VR..

It does look so freaking cool and I bet it's a total joy to play games on it. Even though I'm heavy into gaming, I'm still hesitant to purchase this for $550.

yup! 🤔

That's a lot of HIVE!!

@tipu curate

I don't like Sony's policies for this generation at all.

I've been loving my PS5 and the new PS Plus Extra library, but I'm not too keen on the high cost of many of their products.

wao an incredible experience I didn't know about this great launch.

wao una experiencia increíble no sabia de este gran lanzamiento.

want to try... 👀

If only there were actually plans to get these in say “every Best Buy in the country” so that people could actually try it out before paying so much to own the device. Sadly, I’ve yet to see VR setup at any store for you to try for free.

Your right though... While markets are in heavy uncertainty.. Rather cling to those crypto a bit longer😬...

However I give it another 10 or 20 years and we'd all probably be gaming on those things... The metaverse just needs to jump already😂

No sense in spending over 1000 HIVE to get this thing when later, surely I could spend only 300-500 HIVE and get it.

I’ve been watching this new show called The Peripheral on Prime Video. Now it shows what a vr-focused future could be like. Much like Ready Player One.

Those prices of between $550 and $1000 for a video game seem exaggerated, although those who can and have can enjoy a new and good experience

They are using hardware to back that price up, but even though it does seem worth the money... it is still just so much.

It is a difficult decision for you, my friend, but you have to take into account two important details. One that improves PSVR2 so much to PS5 since we are talking about an amount of money which is not small

For now, I've decided I must pass on this purchase. That will probably change in the future though.

I’m honestly not too shocked by the price considering the quality. 😃 Happy Gaming dear my friend @daltono

I can understand why it is this much, it does have OLED lenses after all. It's still just a big number, I guess I could sell my dusty Nintendo Switch to cut the price in half, but I feel like I would regret it at some point.

The cost is slightly more.
Are you thinking of buying one?

It's about $150 more than I was expecting. I am thinking of getting one at some point, but probably not as soon as they release.

It looks cool and pretty complicated but it's certainly more expensive than my tastes lol. I would imagine I'd get a pretty bad headache having that cover my face, I already had a visual headache from games back on PS3 never mind having it in front of your face like that lol

I have a feeling it would take a bit to get used to using this. Even somebody who has been playing video games for 20+ years like me will probably struggle in the beginning. I'm sure that as with most things, you can get used to the sensations though.

The PSVR 2 will cost a whopping $550

That is insane.

It really is, but considering the Meta Quest Pro is $1500, it doesn’t seem too bad compared to that.
