So much to do, so little time
Man, when I got Dying Light 2, I had no idea it would be this big. The size of the map is huge and what is crazy, is that a lot of the buildings are explorable as well, which can make getting around the city and to the quest objectives pretty time intensive.
One thing that took a while to get used to with this game is to look up. Normally in these open world games, just about everything you do is on the ground level, but this one focuses on getting you off the ground because that it where the zombies hang out, so a lot of travel is done by rooftop.
Seems simple enough, climb up the buildings and run across the roofs. Well it is a lot more complicated than that. You have a limited stamina bar and can only climb so high and not all buildings can be climbed, so you have to keep an eye out for open windows and ledges, then make your way through the maze of zombies sleeping in the buildings to find your way up to the next level.
Now traveling around at night can be even more complicating because you can only see a small cone of light in front of you from your dinky little flashlight. That is why I do most of my exploring during the day and figure out my routes to get to the places that have all the good loot, because at night is when you are able to access those areas.
During the day, most of the zombies are indoors because of the sun, so at night, they leave the buildings and are ALL OVER the streets. It gets pretty crazy trying to make your way to a place to scavenge and then you are seen by one of these howlers and they alert all nearby infected and then the chase is on. Luckily now, I have a paraglider so I can escape a lot easier.
One thing that I really like about this game is the side quests are pretty entertaining and they aren't just watered down fetch quests like so many other games. The dude in the quest above is pretty much like Walt from Breaking Bad.
He was a high school chemistry teacher, whose son was "taken hostage" by the Renegades and then he was forced to make them drugs to keep his son safe. He said that when he went to get his son from the Renegades, they told him that he couldn't have him and then gave him one of his son's fingers and told him to go make more drugs.
When you get there to rescue him, you find out that the kid just wanted his dad to make free drugs for him and his Renegade friends. You never did find out who that finger belonged to.
Overall, I am having a great time with this game. It is huge, but there is a lot to do and it is really keeping me busy. I was hoping to have it completed by the time that Horizon Forbidden West comes out, but I don't think that will ever happen.
Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the greatest games I have ever played, so I am pretty excited to play this one when it releases. But until then, I will be chopping heads off of zombies and Renegades.
