[Let's Babble] Halls of Torment!

It's all @pusen's fault.

A few days ago, @pusen wrote a post extolling the virtues of the latest "Survivors" type game. The latest addiction for those with a bare minimum of willpower. The latest contender for the category of: best time-waster — Halls of Torment.

I was tagged in the post for, as someone with no willpower and an addictive personality, I was the perfect candidate to rush to Steam and buy this as soon as I saw it. And, indeed I did.

It's a graphically ugly game with graphics reminiscent of the 90's, but don't be fooled... for if you enjoyed games such as Vampire Survivors, Soulstone Survivors, Anything Survivors... Halls of Torment is basically Diablo Survivors. Or, better yet, Hard Difficulty Survivors.

I don't feel like a particularly overpowered God like you can feel you are in other games of this genre, which is why I consider it 'Hard Difficulty Survivors,' but as you fulfill achievements (quests), your strength grows and you will come across more characters with which to dungeon delve.

After playing for 9 hours, I have unlocked three characters (not including the swordsman who is the default character) - the archer, the cleric, and the exterminator. So far, the exterminator is my favourite class for he wields a flamethrower with which to BURNINATE ALL THE THINGS! ALL THE VILLAGES! ALL THE PEASANTS.

At first the Cleric was my favourite class due to an ability that radiates around her and pulverises things with area-of-effect glory, but she was very swiftly knocked down a peg once I unlocked the Exterminator.

Each time you dive into a dungeon, you get 30 minutes to survive. During that 30 minutes you will come across hordes of enemies intent upon your destruction that you must vanquish. There are elite creatures with large health bars that need to be decimated, they have mechanics that you must avoid, and all the while you are being set upon by hordes of skeletons and slimes and hell-hounds.

image.png

Sometimes when you kill certain elites, they will drop a treasure chest with armour or jewellery in it. Some of these items are basic with just defense or health on them, but others have powerful abilities that can complement your character's fighting style.

image.png

Even better, once you unlock a dude named The Wellkeeper, each run you can retrieve a piece of gear and chuck it down the well, effectively bringing it back to base for you to equip upon future runs!

image.png

Sometimes there are random events that can occur during your dungeon runs too. At least, I think there are random events. I've had a couple of things happen now that I haven't seen again... like in the screenshot above. There was a skull-altar with three glowing circles around it. You needed to kill a certain amount of enemies within each circle.

I've only seen that once and never again, so I like to think it's a random event. Either way, I thought it was interesting and a cool thing to pop up in the middle of a dungeon!

image.png

And of course, as you delve through the dungeons, you will find gold with which you use to unlock permanent perks for your heroes!

Gold is also used to buy the armour you retrieve from the Wellkeeper who's a bit greedy and wants you to pay for what is rightfully yours. But yay! Gold sinks! Making future runs better, faster, stronger!

There are so many achievements to get. Every time I get one, I get a little adrenaline rush alongside it. xD

This is a highly addictive game. It has a "just one more turn" feel to it. It was a mere $5 on Steam. And I thank @pusen for bringing this to my attention. I'm having a blast! 😁

Until next time! 🎮🔥

I have it in wishlist as well, that pusen.

hahaha.

I might buy the bundle with star survivor. I like space ships.

It sounds like a really addictive game, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm also a fan of the "Survivors" genre, so I'll definitely have to check this one out.

Definitely do! 😁 It joins the genre very well and is more than "just another Vampire Survivors."

Unexpected Trogdor meme. TROGDOOOOOOOR

It is indeed one of those "just one more turn" games. So many times I've thought to myself "just a quick little round" then 4 hours later I'm still sitting here playing Halls of Torment. Dangerous game.

TROGDORRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I miss that age of the internet. xD

I almost "one more turned" last night, but then I forced myself to look at the time first and realised I should've been in bed half an hour ago. Woops.
