My partner has been bugging me for ages to give Destiny 2 a go ~ to just give it a chance ~ and that he was certain that I would like and enjoy it. I'm not really a fps person so was dubious and it took a long time for me to heave a great sigh and at last agree to download it.
First of all, I had to choose the class I'd like to play as.
I was debating between Hunter and Warlock, then asked my partner what would be better for a noob. Without a single WoW Huntard reference, he suggested that the Hunter would probably be best for a new player. So, I chose a Hunter!
What was unexpected, however, was the fact that I got to create my own person. I mean, there aren't that many options, but I enjoy having a character to call my own and will often dislike a game for the pure fact that I have to play a prebuilt character that I can't customise.
I don't even care if I never see my character's face. The fact that I made my character is enough for me.
(For example: still haven't played the Witcher because I don't want to be a weirdy beardy man. Or Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West because I don't want to be a pre-made ginger lady.)
Anyway, my character is not a human, so I'm kind of irked that she has to have eyebrows. I think she'd look better and more 'alien' with no eyebrows. But alas. Eyebrows it is.
I awaken in Old Russia. Apparently I was dead, but this little sentient orb decided to resurrect me and be my friend. Okay. I guess I'm a not-a-zombie.
The quest system seems pretty standard. There's a main story quest where I'm helping some guy named Shaw, and there's also public events that happen out in the world.
The loot system I'm finding a bit odd though. If armour or weapons drop, they look like a weird orb-shaped thing which is hard to distinguish from the ammo and currency that can drop. The ammo has a bright glowing colour around it so it's easy to see, but the proper loot only has a slight glow and you can't really see it's there unless you run right up to it. I find that weird. Considering the main gun I use has infinite ammo, I don't see the point in highlighting it so drastically when the actual guns and armour are more important.
In my opinion, of course.
The main thing, though, is that the multiplayer seems pretty seamless so far. Which is highly important considering the only reason I even bothered to download this is because of being able to play with my partner.
If he does something it counts for me, and if I do something it counts for him. There have been a couple of multiplayer games we've tried where even though we're grouped, we're forced to do our own things in the quest. Which is ridiculous. We're grouped! So I'm at least happy that the multiplayer in this seems really good so far. And the one "strike" that we've done, which is like a dungeon, seemed pretty cool too.
There have been a couple of points where I've been forced to do things solo though, where being grouped means "too many people for this quest" so we have to eyeroll and disband. That's irritating.
At the moment I'm using a hand cannon, sniper rifle, and sword.
Haven't even touched the sword yet but the hand cannon is powerful and easy to use, and the sniper rifle is good too. I find in some fps games the sniper rifle takes a bit of getting used to and it's usually my preferred weapon and it annoys me that it can act differently in different games, but in this it's a simple zoom, aim the cross-hair, shoot with no need to factor in distance or angle or whatever. That pleases me.
I do wish that the minimap was able to be moved to the opposite side of the screen. I find it so unintuitive being on the left side instead of the right. What kind of design choice is that? It's literally on the right side in pretty much every other game.
Pretty much every other computer game anyway. I know consoles are strange beasts.
The gearing system is pretty standard -- you have three slots for guns, your typical armour slots, and down in the bottom left corner of your gear is your little sentient robot friend. By the looks of things you can upgrade him too!
The big purple diamond has your subclass in it.
I'm still really figuring this out, but this holds your class's abilities of which I unlock as I progress more through the story and various quests.
Gameplay-wise I'm actually finding it pretty fun, but just as with every other fps I've ever played I have an issue with thinking friends are enemies. 😆 I'm pretty sure there's no friendly fire in this, thankfully, unlike when my partner and I were playing Halo and I kept killing him.
But there's been a couple of times now whilst in groups of enemies I'll start shooting at a friendly and wonder why they're not dying then realise it's not an enemy.
So far I think I'm enjoying it, but the main reason my partner wants to play is because of the new Witch Queen expansion which happens to cost $60 in Australian money, and we would both have to get it, and I'm not quite sure I'm prepared to spend that just yet.
We'll see what happens after a bit more playing, I think.
But so far I'm quite enjoying it. 😊
Until next time! 🔫🚀⭐️
